Default How often do you practice?

I don't practice as much as I'd like but this photo was taken after 5 hours of playing.
Now usually this wouldn't happen but it came after taking 3 weeks off from steady gigging.
Out with the old callouses, in with the new.

    practice!

I usualy get 1 to 2 hours of playing a night in.Sometimes I miss a day or two.But I never let a week go by,It takes a few days to get back to speed then.Ive been doing this for 17 years and its best just to practice when you have a little time ,dont make a rigid time frame for practice,Because your life changes.

At least an hour a night. Sometimes I may skip a day or two. I remember when I first started, I was playing at least 3 hours every night.

Off and on between 7:00pm and 11:00pm at work, maybe an hour and a half.

Back when I was just starting I averaged 6 hours a day.

Some days I get home from school and work and have zero time to practice, it's awful. I try to always fit in at least a little time to play though, if it means I have to stay up late or whatever. On weekends, I often sit up all night with my headphones on, playing guitar for hours and hours.

Depending on if we have a gig on the weekend it's usually 5 hrs with the band and around 4hrs alone a week. Remembering ..if we have a gig ....I live gig is worth 5 rehearsals.

I'm lucky if I can fit 1/2 hour in a day. Between work, kids, and classes, I'm booked. Playing, though, seems to be my only chance at sanity these days.

And 'fiddl, I couldn't tell if those were fingers or toes!!! Guess I've had a couple too many beers tonight.

Sadly, lately I have practiced about once every two weeks. My legatos have turn in to limp-gatos and my alternate picking is eyeballing an alternative lifestyle. I may pick my acoustic up for about 5 minutes, but I'm a newlywed who is trying not to get used to the ever-looming sedentary lifestyle. My practice comes with my buddy who plays drums. He lives 45 minutes away so we meet in the middle at a rehearsal space.

It's hard to dig out the full gear living in an apartment. Even with my Triaxis at a whimper, my cab will thonk. I'd rather not use it at all unless I can open it up. LOL, I think I am probably the most loathed guitarist at the rehearsal space; I always crank it LOUD--you can hear me over all the other bands. But hey, it's all about the tone.

BTW, for any of you with Boogie Mark IV's, I discovered a cool headphone trick. Take a cable from the "recording out" and into your stereo's mic input (only works this way--My cheap stereo has a Karaoke function that allows volume mix level of the mic input). Pull the "Mute Speaker" (output) knob. Then plug your headphones into the stereo and keep the mix level moderate.
Voila, instant Mark IV practice amp.

Every other day with my acoustic....15 minutes.

My Wofgang and 5150, twice a month in I'm lucky.

Maybe that's why I suck, oh well, I do enjoy the time I do play, but my dry skin and cracked fingertip is killing me right now.

    FREAKIN' COLD WEATHER!!!!
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

I use to practice like a neurotic person.I'd get upset when something would get in the way of my practicing.I realize that a good, well balanced 2 to 3 hour regime work.I don't practice straight through (Carpel Tunnel can git ya!) I'll practice an hour before school, then the rest at night.I also realized that missing days isn't a bad thing.U miss a day,That'll give time for your brain to digest all the practice, think though what you did the day before.Look at musicians, they don't perform every day. Then the next time you practice a particular piece (start slowly) Your mind is familar with it.Just my two cents.

The question is not, "Does love exist?"
But when she leaves, where she goes?
I got the feelin' she don't know either

Usually when I practice, I work on developing my style and speed but if I dont play for a couple days, I loose everything that I learned. Even right now, I'm still trying to work on tapping and harmonics along with the speed factor. I used to be able to do Ed's Humming Bird but if I dont do it for a day, I loose it and I'm just floppin my wrist all of the place.

Nowhere near as much as I used to. As a kid I was really hardcore and
paid the dues that get you to where you cross that wall and your
technique is kinda always there. I usually just jam with tracks or
something rhythmic once or twice a week these days to keep it
tuned up - maybe learn some Beatles or something (just learned
Unchained last week - ta da! - kinda slow getting to the cover tunes...)
Been more in lyric and vox mode more than shred shed bound lately.
