    Paul McCartney at the Superbowl...thoughts?

Look, I like entertainment as much as the next bloke, but when it comes to the national football code final then I am more picky. In the past, the half time Superbowl shows have included some great shows done by great American artists. They are generally the best of what American entertainment has to offer. Sure some have been less than great, but they are American. I myself am pretty pissed off that the NFL have decided to sign a Beatle whose great days are behind him. Here is a chance to watch a quarter of a once great group, go through the motions, sing a few OLD tunes, make people feel a little nostaligic and make a heap of $$$$. Call me what you want, but shouldn't the biggest show in American sport contain the biggest names in American music. Didn't they have Van Halen's number? What about the myriad of other acts who would have done a great job. This show would be like seeing Kylie Minogue singing the English National anthem at the FA Cup final. Keep it in your house and don't drag in old beatles to mess it up....

San Francisco Chronicle pop-music critic Aidin Vaziri once wrote this timeless piece on Paul. He made the list for the 10 most hated me in rock.

"Paul McCartney- Barely qualified to carry John Lennon's roach clip while both toiled with a grotesquely overrated boy band known as the Beatles, Sir Paul's true colors have reverberated loudly and horribly since Mark David Chapman put a tragic slug in Yoko's hubby. "Band on the Run" could have been written by a third grader, and McCartney's duets with alleged pedophile Michael Jackson -- and the ensuing public pissing match over Wacko Jacko's savvy purchase of the Beatles' catalogue -- cemented McCartney's legacy of poor taste and idiocy. And wasn't it great when Sir Paul, sharing the stage with Madonna at the close of the 1999 MTV Music Awards, thought Lauryn Hill was a man, referring to the artist of the year as "some guy named Lawrence Hill?" Nice one, asshole. Worst of all, who can forget the post-9/11 ode to freedom named, with typical genius, "Freedom"? Marrying a young, blond, one-legged starfucker twelve hours after burying your hero-philanthropist wife was a good one too, mate. Go fuck yourself, McCartney. You deserve worse than that, but such dread is unattainable on this earth. We can only hope Satan delivers the goods to Sir Paul in Hell, where knighthoods carry no currency. "

Down from my soap box and off to the fridge for a beer now.

my pick for the Super Bowl

I would absolutely LOVE to see John Mellencamp perform Pink Houses during the Super Bowl. IMO, he'd be an excellent choice!

Meh. If its worse than Shania Twains lip Synch, or Janets saggy old tit then I might give a shit.

So sing the song yourself Paul, and keep yer tits in yer shirt, and your doing OK in my book!

I never pay attention to the halftime show anyway, mainly because it sucks due to the crappy artists they have "performing". If they get someone legitimately good like Paul McCartney or U2, then why gripe about it?

My first thought is, why does an Australian care so much about an NFL Superbowl game? I didn't know that you watched the NFL there.

My second thought is Paul McCartney is a great choice, much better than Justin Timberlake or Britney Spears.

I have had this question for a long time: As much as I dislike Shania Twain I have a feeling that she wasnt really lip-synching it was just that they played the real version of the song over her actual live vocals for t.v viewers. I thought might be what they do.

Everything at live-televised sporting events in lip-synced. Has been for years, that way there are no suprises. This is also why you almost never see anyone cool at these events. Believe it or not, there are some artist who can't lip-sync.

As far as McCartney goes, I don't care one way or the other, I use the time to order pizza and take a shit. This is why I missed the saggy old teet last year. It is funny, and more than a little sad that before the Sammy-heads and Roth-tards there were Lennoniods and McCartyites. Like Van Halen with Roth and Ed, without McCartney there is no Lennon or Beatles. I realize that this is lost on both Van Halen and Beatle fans everywhere.

This is going to be the most sterile Superbowl and halftime show ever, and the fact that even the COMMERCIALS are cleaned up can guarantee that. Lame.

Who watches the halftime show anyway? Halftime is more time out in the backyard by the grill and the keg.

I have no problem with Paul McCartney performing at halftime. After having Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, and N-Stink the past couple of years, it's nice to have someone who can actually sing and not use sex to get by. Bring it on Sir Paul!

Not when you have a foot of snow on the ground. Supposed to be close to 50 today though. Freaking heat wave.

The halftime show's in the past have sucked. If i was to watch it at all, i would much rather see McCartney actually sing some old classics than watch some untalented piece of dung jump around lip-synching.

Anyone else see the irony of having an ex Beatle on the Half Time show because he's "safe" for all us kiddies to watch?

Isn't he part of those satanic, youth-corrupting Beatles? Didn't all of the concerned parents smash thier albums and protest thier shows back in the day ?

My how times have changed....or have they?
