    Default South Carolina???

I need some help here my fellow linkers. I'm currently living here in upstate NY and I can't afford to any longer. I'm considering a move to South Carolina, Greenville area....does anyone here live in S.C. or know anything about S.C. whether it's good, bad or any info about the area? I don't want to take my family to a place that might suck!!!!! Thanks in advance!!!!

I have never been to either of the Carolina's but have heard nothing but great things about both.

Side note - If your looking for a place to move were the cost of living is good as well as pay scale go to TEXAS!! Texas rules in this category.

Kentucky's pretty good, but you don't wanna live too near the city. Where I live, everything's pretty nice, BUT you have to be living in the right place, like me! I live near a bunch of doctors and lawyers (I don't know why! We're probably the most poor people here and we're middle class), but, just across the road, it's like a friggin trailor park rolled around in poop!
So you broke down, trying to leave town, I broke down crying on your return. You left me feeling hopeful, I'll never see your face again. You made for a bad lover's liver. You stole all the covers and busted my head. You made me such an asshole, I wish we'd never met. I'm tired of being bored. I'm through with the headaches. Hiding my hands that tremble like earthquakes. Under the table, under the daytime sky, Good Fucking Bye- Good Fucking Bye, Alkaline Trio

evhslilhottie---what part of kentucky are you in? My fiance and I just moved across the river from Louisville to New Albany. neither of us are big fans of the area. We moved here cause of her job. Louiville isn't too bad from what I have seen, but I like Ohio better.

Emm5150 why did you choose S.C.?? If I were you I would visit a few times before moving if possible.

I live and go to school in downtown Charleston. I've been up to Greenville a few times, and it was pretty nice. You'll get snow up there in less quantities than NY. It's a conservative town; Bob Jones is there. The school system up there has to be better than the Charleston County system, which has been having serious issues.

So yeah, that's just a few thoughts there.

South Carolina is pretty good living especially near Charleston (opinion from my bro stationed there for a while). Personally, I've only been to Columbia and didn't get to see too much of it. Being in Boot Camp at Fort Jackson, they didn't let you go see the "sites". The only thing I will warn you about is the f*%#ing fire-ants!!! They are god-aweful down there...

I've always considered Greenville kind of a dirty town. It reminds me of NC's Greensboro, but that's just my "passing through" opinion. If you're considering the Carolinas, I would go with Charleston (avoid Columbia) in SC or Charlotte/Raleigh in NC, but traffic is really bad. Even Asheville's a good area, if you don't mind the snow in the winter.
As far a school systems are concerned, I don't have a lot of knowledge of any public school systems outside of Mecklenburg county (Charlotte's).

I chose S.C. because a friends cousin goes there all the time and says how great it is, so my friend is going to check it out to see how it is for a permanent location and wants us to go too. I hate NY and my job so I'm really up for any move out of state right now!!! We're going down in April to check it out ourselves. No way would I just pack up and split without visiting first....thanks!!!

Greenville has done a nice job on their downtown revitalization. Especially the Main St area. Lot of eccentric shops and a overall good safe vibe

I grew up in Columbia and also lived in Chas. a number of years.
Chas. is cool, but very small - nice place to visit...
I only made it to Greenville a couple times, but it seemed very similar to
Cola. - suburban kinda town with a small but existent 'scene'. Not a bad
place for a family unit situation, but kinda boring for my taste. I
didn't really realize how much so until I left and came back after
three years. The place is moving backwards - socially, politically,
educationally, all the way across the board. Understand this is a
place that still has a controversy over the Confederate flag. Everything is
in black & white, in more ways than one. Dunno, maybe you're into racial
    politics...

The thing about SC in general (maybe less so in Gville) is IT's HOTTER THAN BALLS.
People in SoCal like to complain about the heat, but they have no idea.
VERY HUMID. I'm talkin', you get out of the shower and instantly need
another one cause you sweating like a fool.

Again, I can't see EVER moving back (Atl., maybe someday, probably not),
and IMHO, it sucks. Shudder to think about it. But my father CHOSE to
retire there and it seems to agree with him. Just a matter of what kind of
    lifestyle will make you happy.

PS - it was much easier to get laid by fine women though, but that's
    probably a minus for you...
