    Future of Van Halen

I flew in for NAMM 05 and working in the music industry I had an opportunity to chit chat with a few folks not only about equipment tech issues and your basic mumbo jumbo but about certain music acts. I now wanted to share what I'd learned about one band in question. Van Halen and it's future and the feeback I received from those in 'the know' is this; there will be no future with hagar and he's finished with the band. Promoters lost so much money (Clear Channel) that the next major promoter will only put up cash if it's a reunion with Dave only. Does this mean the end of Van Halen? It does in terms of being backed into a corner when it's a known fact that Eddie and Alex will not have anything dictated to them. According to all sources I spoke with, the next Van Halen tour would either be with Dave or no more Van Halen.

    Ding ding ding!

We have yet another contender. Yet another first time poster with the real deal scoop o' the century!

I especially enjoyed how the major promoters absolutely won't back anymore tours without Dave...'cause these modern promoters these days, they KNOW - and CARE - how much green Dave would bring in... This is why they're letting him play the Indian casinos instead of sponsoring a world tour.

Because the music industry's current climate would embrace a Dave reunion even given a risk on the desperational redline. Because it's not like classic rock's nearly dead to the mainstream of the world. Nah, that's not it.

Come on, Ted...give us a break.

Somebody explain to me why Van Halen needs to have any support at all for a tour.

    They don't need cash upfront.

Give them a Tour manager, bus driver, 3 roadies and lets hit the road with a bus and a Exxon card.

I've been to plenty of shows were Indy bands tour, getting the majority of the door and sell out every show.

If you own a club and VH is asking for 4K and the door....why wouldn't you book them in your club.

This idea that Van Halen must continue on as a rock spectacle is pretty lame. Gone are the days of selling out arenas for 3 straight nights....they've been gone for a long time. Play the clubs, play for the real fans. Imagine VH at a 2K seater club.....

Musicians play 'til the day they die....I can only hope that Ed will make the decision to share some of his musical moments with the fans.
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

This apparent 'rumour' makes me think there should be a 'comedy' section ...... it's managed to make everyone laugh so far!!.

I am in the know. I know that no one knows what I know, nor do you know what you claim to know even though you know who you know. Know what I'm sayin'? You know you do.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

Q: who was the biggest douche that you have worked with?

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

Now the new David-Lee-Roth-Van Halen album, “Tokyo Dome In Concert,” is available for purchase, and it’s super, super, super, super, super, super, crazy bad. - Doug Elfman

If Van Ha*** was guaranteed $750K/show* and the tour brought in $54.3M*, then of course the tour lost money. It's amazing to me how some people still think a million dollars is a lot of money. Well, OF COURSE it is when it's in your wallet but there are other mouths to feed....catering, fuel for the buses and trucks, union wages, insurance, etc etc etc.
