    Default Safe Mode

Hey guys if you boot up in Safe Mode and your computer doesn't freeze, hang, etc.. whatever problem you were having out of Safe Mode doesn't occur in other words.

Does this signify a software or hardware dilemma?

Software usually, Start,Run,msconfig, startup tab, disable all, then reboot. Alot of times that will solve the problem. That prevents other programs from starting as Windows boots up that might be having a conflict with one another. (XP only)

Its always best to name the OS you are using before asking a technical question.

Have you done all of your Windows Updates?

Have you added something recently - a new piece of hardware or a new program - just before this problem started.

The msconfig exists in Windows 98, too, so you can try that option as described earlier.

Assuming you've done all the driver and windows updates, I'd take out every card except the video card, change the video drivers to vga and then add the drivers to the vid card on the next boot. Add the hardware one by one until you figure out which one is causing the hang-up. Usually its a conflicting resource in 98. I could be wrong.

You can also revert to a previous date (prior to when you had your problems) by either restarting and telling it to go to msdos mode or by hitting F8 when you boot up and selecting DOS. Once you are in dos mode type scanreg and it will give you a list of previous versions that you can back date to. Keep in mind you will lose any changes to your system that you have made after the date you select.
