Default That's Why I Love You Vs. Crossing Over Vs. I Want Some Action

I love these song duel thingies...

Okay, so lots are agreed the two tracks left off the U.S. versions of Balance and 3 were crimes of unmitigated gall. Many believe TWILY was the best track Gary ever laid with the boyz. Many also believe, myself included, Crossing Over puts to shame nearly half of the trax on Balance...putting Not Enough, Deja Vu, and CSLY on Sam's last vinyl effort instead of CO was mind-boggling. And IWSA is actually a pretty keen 5150 leftover, and probably shoulda been on Sam's first vinyl effort instead of Inside or Love Walks In. Never let it be said that Van Halen doesn't keep us on our toes.

Supposing Warner, a geriatric senile Ed, or the Ghost of Christmas Future releases some kind of B-Side / Unreleased Gem set of VH in some wacky alternate universe, and supposing you were some exec who could only pick ONE of the three to be on the bitchin' super duper gooper box set...which would it be?

Me, I really kinda liked TWILY, and I fuckin' hate 3 as many of you know. And any 5150 extras with remastered production have got to be gold. But I'm going with Crossing Over. It fits right in with that dark anejo Balance vibe. And I like it, like it, yes I do.

Um, I'ma have to say I Want Some Action. I don't really like crossing over. I guess I Want Some Action is basically Dirty Water Dog(which I like alot) with different riffs in different places and different lyrics(and Sambo Hagmeister on vocals!). I do however really really like TWILY, seriously, it's one of my favorite tunes by The Halen. I just wish Gary would have sung on the albums like he did live, which is rare for someone to say. Usually it's "singers suck live(Dave)", but Cherone killed live. It's a shame really...

Heh...now that's a description you can almost taste. My pick is "Crossing Over" for two major reasons: I've not heard a more refined, bassy version of IWSA yet, and while I think it's a fine song, the version that got out is too tinny, and TWILY is now ruined for me by less than fond memories. Maybe I'll revisit it in a few years.

Sorry to hear that, man. Honest.

But lemme get this straight...you picked '3' as a background soundtrack to some lovin' spoonfuls?

Dude, TWILY was never on "3". It was a toss-out if I recall correctly.
And no, I didn't use it as a 'bumping uglies' theme. The lyrics just made me think of her and we'd e-mail bits of random song lyrics to each other throughout our work days. TWILY was one of the songs I borrowed from.

Crossing Over is the best song out of those three. IWSA is OK, but I've only heard low-quality versions of it. TWILY is alright, I don't know why they didn't leave it on III.

I love TWILY, one of my favorite VH songs period. I like Crossing Over but it just never seems to go anywhere. I as well have only heard poor quality versions of IWSA, so I would rate it last.

I really dig "Crossing Over". Very haunting song. I love the duel drum tracks.

I love Crossing Over but you can get that on Japanese Balance. TWILY was great but I am happy with it just on my computer. IWSA is what I would choose because it is not very good quality the way I have heard it and I like it the best.
