Default NAMM 2005 (Gary and Mikey)

I went. I spent a lot of time on product, but as far as people I saw, I saw:

Stephan Perkins waiting outside of my hotel as I walked in
    Josh Todd walking past me
    Phil Collen
    Vic Johnson
    Nathan East
Jim Marshall sitting down to lunch at the Marriot next to me
    Troy Van Leeuwen
    Jerry Horton
    Michael Anthony
Mike Inez jamming at Nady's booth with an Ozzy tribute band
    Chris Jericho
    Mike Mangini
Might be more but its a blur.

I was gonna go see the DeLeo bros. show with Steve Ferrone, Billy Sheehan, and Ray Luzier, but I decided to go to the Dean Markley show instead.

At the Dean Markley show at the Galaxy was:

    Perry Farrell
    Dick Dale
    Michael Anthony
    Yngwie Malmsteen
    Gary Cherone
Nuno Bettencourt and his band Population 1
    George Lynch
    Warren DiMartini
    Will Calhoun (Living Colour)
T.M. Stevens (James Brown, Tina Turner, Joe Cocker, Billy Squier)
    Jon Anderson (Yes)
    Neil Zaza
Sonik Elementz (This all star band featuring Neil Zaza, keyboardist/ programmer Dave Kerzner, and bassist Doug Johns, Jon Anderson, members of Earth, Wind, and Fire)

    Tom Morrello didn't show.

Very cool show. Neil Zaza is probably the fastest guitarist I've ever seen, and his bassist was ridiculously good. It was fun to see Dick Dale, he and his son closed their set with Miserlou. Nuno's new band is really good, and for those who don't know, he is one of the most respected technical guitarists of the last 20 years. Much more than 'More Than Words'.

    Highlights had to be:
    Neil Zaza's whole set

Dick and Jimmy Dale doing Miserlou

Perry coming out with Nuno's band and playhing 'Stop', then bringing out some percussionists and Warren DiMartini to jam a great version of 'Sympathy for the Devil'.

T.M. Stevens comes out with Wil Calhoun, Nuno, to perfom Get On Up, then bring out Gary Cherone for some 'Walk This Way' and 'Get the Funk Out'.

Michael Anthony, Nuno, George Lynch, Gary Cherone, Nuno's drummer for Van Halen's 'Somebody Get Me a Doctor', 'Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love', and 'Mean Steet', and Zeppelin's 'Rock and Roll', 'Communication Breakdown', and 'Black Dog'.

And of course, I'd never seen Yngwie before, and as arrogant as he is, he put on a hell of a damn show. He's great.

There was a lot I didn't write about, but this gives you the highlights. Very fun.
