Default SD's answer to the EVH DiMarzio's

    Hey guys,

What would be some good SD suggestions to get the EVH DiMarzio sounds like in the EVH EBMM and the wolfgang? I'm thinkin about choices because I might get a VW body from warmoth and throw in some SD's but I want to get dam close to the EVH sound as much as I can. Or if you can suggest some Dimarzios that would work, that would be great.

BOISE STATE BRONCOS! - They're awesome. Deal with it!

11/16/04 - VAN HALEN in Boise, Idaho. Changed my life forever

8/8/06 - Sammy Hagar and the Wabos w/Michael Anthony in Boise, Idaho. Sam and Mike still kick ass

Howdy! From everything I have read over the years, what you need is a SD Custom Custom in the bridge and an air norton in the neck. Also, im pretty sure dimarzio's closest pickups to what is in the EBMM are the Tone Zone in the Bridge and and a PAF Pro for the neck. Also, from everything I know ( or think I know) A SD 59 is the closest you can get for the striped guitars. I have had SD Pickups in my guitars, but have since switched to dimarzio, seems to sound a little more musical to me, but thats just my taste. Hope this helps

I think the DiMarzio's sound better in basswood bodies. I LOVE Duncan pups in my Ash and Alder guitars, but not so much in basswood. I'd go with a DiMarzio Tone Zone in the bridge and a Air Norton in the neck.

The Seymour Duncan custom shop do a model called the EVH (evenly voiced harmonics) and that is darn close to the PAF's EVH used on the early records.

The EVH or 1978 from SD nails it almost perfectly. They come stock with an impedence of 9.12k, which I thought was still a little too hot. I had MJ wind me a few at about 8.95k and they were much better. I know it doesn't sound like much, but more headroom and string separation, and less noise. You can hear them here:
