Default Great bands with great names

What bands have the coolest names?

I'm biased obviously. "Van Halen", named after the best sounding guitarist and drummer, and they just happen to have a fuckin cool sounding last name.

"Rush" - encapsulates the feeling I get when I hear new material from them, and old material as well.

"Genesis" - the beginning of a fantastic creation.

let's see... how about, only for creativity (does not necessarily endorse the music, although some these bands are obviously great):

    -guns 'n' roses
-beatles (as in "beat"les, instead of beetles)
-my life with the thrill kill kult (or any other really long, non-commercial name)
-metallica (the name of a spraypaint can)
-megadeth (military term for one million deaths, the result of an a-bomb, and originally a band name under consideration by waters and co. before settling on pink floyd)
    -pink floyd ('nuff said)
-ratt (originally mickey ratt, a black sheep cousin of mr.mouse?)
    -u2 (a bomber plane)
    -whiteanything (snake, lion, tiger, etc.)

LOL...me too. And to be honest, anybody who doesn't, ought not to be showin' their face around a classic hard rock forum.

The U2 is actually a high-altitude Cold War-era recon plane, a '60's product of the Lockheed Skunk Works. The only time it came into contact with ordnance is when it was shot down, prompting the development of the SR-71. But I digress.

    Names I like:

    Apocalyptica
Apartment 26 (and these guys put out some great stuff, too!)
    Alice in Chains
    Tribe of Judah
Van Halen (it's so rock and roll)

haha. Actually I've heard that they were going to call themselves "Metallic," but James would say their name, and with that damn idiosyncrasy of his, it came out "Metallic..A." So they were like "MetallicA"....hey that's cool!

    Some favorites of mine are:

The Rolling Stones (it just sounds good, it's so "Rock and roll")

Pink Floyd (ditto on sounding good)

Blue Oyster Cult--off-the-wall and kewl sounding.
    "Suck a fat one, faggot."
-MikeL, showing off that sharp wit of his.

"You may recognize some of these chemicals. Let's start with cyanide...The one the Aum Shinrikyo cult attempted to use to commit mass murder in a Tokyo subway in May 1995...The same cyanide produced routinely--1.4 million tons per year--for use in the production of plastics, adhesives, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and so on. It seems that those who put small amounts of cyanide in subways are terrorists. But those who produce it in mass quantities and contaminate broad reaches of soil, water, and air, killing countless living beings, are not terrorists, but rather capitalists, and are counted among the finest and most powerful people on the planet."

-Derrick Jensen, "What We Leave Behind"

"You know what's weird to me is Christians who are against the death penalty. After all, if it weren't for the death penalty, we wouldn't celebrate Easter!"

    -the late, great, Bill Hicks

    Ummmm...The Band -I mean c'mon!

    Seriously,

The Who - "Who was that?" "The Who." "Who?" "Right."
Bill Haley and his Comets - Pretty rockin' stuff for the day
Boston - simple enough, but it doesn't work for just any city
A little more volume in the headphones please.

There are SO many cool names.. Led Zepplin etc... but,I always thought band names with a title of a persons name was cool.

    Pink Floyd
    Jethro Tull
    Lynard Skynard
    Molly Hatchet

It really pisses me off when some one says for instance " Oh yeah Jethro Tull.. I"ve seen HIM"

While they're not Hard Rock, G'Mule is a kickass band with a cool name. A reference to the 40 acres and a United States Army i.e. Government Mule, promised to the slaves after being made free by Abraham Lincoln. Also led by one of the most amazing guitar players, singers, and songwriters, Mr. Warren Haynes
