    Check this out...http://www.peavey.com/news/wnamm05_penta.cfm

Now this might be something worth checking out from Peavey...

What the hell is that??? Hopefully it sounds better than that Wiggy POS. Peavey needs to stick with the 6505's, XXX's, and JSX's.

They also have a new "Valve King" line coming out in the second quarter. I don't usually like Peavey amps, but I will at least give it a listen. The MSRP on the 112 combo is 500 bucks, I think, and that's not bad at all if it's a decent amp.

I agree, but the "Classic" amps are probably the best they've got after the JSX and the 5150's.

I'd probably put the Classic series/Delta Blues at the top of that list. I can see y'all's points, but as for me, I am a former 5150 owner and found it had barely any usable gain. Anything past 6.5 on the pregain is lost to my ears. And the presence control did nothing between 3 and 7. I am a veteran/retiree of the music retail business (I don't ever want to go back!), and I helped coordinate a clinic with Dweezil Zappa/Lisa Loeb at my store. He actually got some nice tones out of that solid state Wiggy head, but yeah, it wasn't for me. The JSX and XXX have two great channels, but the Ultra is too noisy. I only saw Joe use his amp once at a guitar show, and I thought it sounded too thin and trebly, at least next to Andy Timmons' Mesa Lone Star.

Amplifiers and tones are like voices: they are all different and everyone is partial to a certain type. I think in my 10 years of playing my "gain" knob on my amps has been getting lower and lower. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Yep. Distortion masks the inadequacies of the hands. I love distortion but not for the sake of being distorted.

I take offense to the Wiggy POS comment. I got a Wiggy as soon as they came out and I get killer clean tones with that amp. No it's not a high gain monster like the 5150 or XXX series. It's not supposed to be. It's very hard to get a proper idea of what the Wiggy does in the store. There's too much going on with every little knob. I've had mine for nearly 3 years now and I'm still having a blast finding new tones in it. To me, the Wiggy is a clean tone tweakers wet dream.

As for the Penta, I think it's pretty interesting. I'm looking forward to trying one out when they're available.

And btw, the Penta is the amp Peavey and George Lynch were working on together until he bailed yet again to go with Framous. Think super charged Plexi.

I just saw this amp on Peavey's website tonight. I guess I'm not very caught up on current or past product. I'm actually very interested in checking one out... (BTW, I know this thread is really old, I was just being a good boy using the search function and not creating more clutter...)

Really??? Hmmm... I just may have to make a trip to my local music store to see if they have one to try out and make sure I like it before shelling out 500 bucks for one... Who knows? My local music store owner knows me pretty well and has bought appliances from me at my store and I hooked him up so maybe he'll wanna let his go (if he even has one) pretty cheap...

I think out of all the amps Peavey made the Penta was a lost cause, the Windsor isnt to shabby for a 300 dollar tube amp.

The Penta has some cool tones in it, but it is a very unwieldy amp. The lack of true channel switching killed it. A very interesting idea though. The hi-gain channel was a POS though.
