Default Yamaha Unleashes AES620SH Sammy Hagar Signature Electric

YAMAHA UNLEASHES AES620SH SAMMY HAGAR SIGNATURE ELECTRIC

ANAHEIM, CA--Yamaha pays a fitting tribute to the music and energy of "Red Rocker" Sammy Hagar with the Winter NAMM release of the AES620SH limited edition signature electric guitar. Developed at Yamaha's USA Custom Guitar shop, the AES620SH takes its design cue from the award-winning Yamaha AES620, with upgraded materials and special appointments that will appeal to fans, collectors and everyday players.

"Sammy has been a major force in rock and roll, from his days in Montrose through Van Halen, his fine solo work, and everything in between," says Ken Dapron, director, Yamaha Guitar Development. "This guitar is, like him, in a class all its own."

The AES620SH has a contoured, solid Mahogany body with a quilted Maple veneer top, fast 24 3/4" scale set Nato neck and Rosewood fingerboard with custom "Cabo Wabo" inlay. Electronics include an Alnico humbucking neck and Duncan(tm) JB bridge pickups, active and passive volume controls, and a 3-way selector switch. Other design elements include a low-mass Chrome tune-O-matic style bridge, plus Chrome tuning machines, a 6-finger independent tail piece and a custom translucent Red Rocker finish.

"Signature instruments are usually well-appointed products--and usually well out of reach for the average person," says Bryan Savage, marketing manager, Yamaha Guitars. "The AES620SH is unique in that it offers the solid features of Yamaha's AES620, the professional features that Sammy Hagar uses, at a price that everyday players can afford."

Known for his high-energy, guitar-driven sound, Hagar made his name in the 1970s California music scene before joining hard rock act Montrose as singer and rhythm guitarist. He became a major star after joining Van Halen in 1985, contributing to the mega-platinum albums 5150, OU812, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, LIVE: Right Here, Right Now and Balance. His solo career spans 30 years, and has produced a string of successful releases and hits, including Standing Hampton, Three Lock Box ("Your Love is Driving Me Crazy"), VOA ("I Can't Drive 55") and Red Voodoo ("Mas Tequila"). He continues to record and tour, runs the successful nightspot Cabo Wabo in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and also markets his own brand of tequila.

For more information on the AES620SH, visit Yamaha at Winter NAMM 2005 in the Marquis Ballroom at the Anaheim Marriott Hotel; write Yamaha Corporation of America, Pro Audio & Combo Division, Guitar Products, P.O. Box 6600, Buena Park, CA 90622; telephone (714) 522-9011; email infostation@yamaha.com; or visit www.yamaha.com.

I had a feeling Sammy was going with Yamaha when he started playing them on this past tour. I'm just surprised thee's no piezo on it, he seems to be a fan of those.

    Default Hmmm...

Sounds good to me. Anyone here ever play one?
I may have to travel north to San Jose to a music store up there to try one on for size. The two music places here don't have that model in stock.

If you do go see one, let us know what price they're asking - I'd like to see what premium they'll put on one for the Cabo Wabo inlays.

Thanks, Jeanette - $799 seems to be the typical MSRP out there for the AES620, but most discount sites like 8thstreet.com have the regular models at $499 - we'll see where this all shakes out.

    Thanks again!

Anyone Know Whatever Happened To THIS???

I was also curious to know if anyone had heard anything about what has ever happened to this Sammy Hagar signature guitar (Model AES620SH) that Yamaha was going to release???

I called around about it for a while at some local music shops and I
even had some customer reps from Yamaha email back and forth with me
about it and I still haven't heard when it's going to become
    available...if ever.

Last I heard, Yamaha said they weren't gonna release it because of
issues dealing with the way it played. They said they wouldn't
release it until those issues were all ironed out.

My hubby Bill and I REALLY liked this model. We were seriously thinking about
getting one. This would probably be the last major 'Sammy~Investment'
    we'd make....but we'd actually PLAY this one.

If anyone knows whatever happened with this, please post it. Thanks!

JA :-))) <---dug that guitar and I REALLY DUG the promo pic of Sam
pretending to bite it...hehe! Interesting shot. ;-)

    Well alrightie then.

Monday I went in to the local music store here and layed a down payment of $600 as a deposit on *MY* new AES620SH.

I'm also getting the AES620 case to go with it. Haven't done the final paperwork yet, but the dude said he'd try to cut me a deal as close to cost as he could. We'll see about that when it comes in. Should be here (HOPEFULLY) early next week or so.

JA <---will get pics of me with it. Should I do the 'biting the neck pose' like Sammy did? LOL!

    Ok...

    Wellll alrightie then!!!!!
    It's all paid for!

The final price was only $100 over MSRP...so it was $899.00. Not bad!
It came in yesterday and I got to peek at it. (Gonna have the music store hold it till the case comes in for it.)
It's a BEAUT!!! Awesome, awesome, awesome!!!!
I was kinda surprised at how LIGHT it was compared to many other electrics of similar design and I also noticed it has not one, but TWO knobs on the rear to attach your shoulder strap to. Is this a feature other guitars have now or is it just this one??? Anyone ever see this before?
Man, I can't wait to hear how it sounds!

Now....I just gotta get Sammy over here now to give me some lessons on it! LOL!!!

    X-Mas Surprise...

Well, it's not actually a PRESENT, cause it's gonna belong to BOTH my hubby and I, but it is gonna be sort of a X-Mas 'surprise' for him...and I have to keep it low profile till then. Yeah...it's gonna be tough...specially when it gets home...I have no clue where I am gonna hide the thing! LMAO!!!!!
