Default Classic: Looney Tunes Merrie Melodies dowload

No collection is complete without this.

Here is a quick review of that classic 4 CD compilation:

Looney Tunes Merrie Melodies: The Unreleased, 4 discs compiled from hundreds of live recordings and studio outtakes. Nearly 5 hours of music, 1/2 covering Dave and 1/2 covering the Sammy era. This compilation was the work of many diehards on the Van Halen Mailing list. A significant piece of trivia is that the first three tracks on disc one are bogus. they are not Van Halen, but George Lynche’s band of Dokken. How these got past VH mailing list fans remains a mystery.

Disc one is packed with club days era (’74 to’77) music ,with VH doing originals and covers from Aerosmith, Bad Company, Led Zep, and David Bowie amongst others . The recording sound is primitive, but the obviously young and hungry Dave and Co. are killers on the loose. (22 tracks).

Disc two: The first seven tracks were recorded in October of ‘77 for the Warner Brothers demos. Track one has EVH’s awesome intro to Voodoo Queen that will later be recycled into the classic “Meanstreets” riff on the “Fair Warning” album. The balance of disc two (18 tracks) is composed of early club dates that show early VH as a growing, well versed , emerging musical giant armed with blazing cover tunes and developing an original style that will soon make EVH and Dave household names.

Most of Disc three and all of Disc four are for Sammy Hagar fans. Disc three has Van Hagar doing classic covers of “Wild Thing", “Rock Candy” even Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition”. Sammy covers Dave’s “Runnin with the Devil and Unchained” . Eddie plays Sammy’s guitar on track 21 and they do a scorching “Mississippi Queen”. Disc 4 opens with a powerful but far too short version of Led Zep’s “The Ocean”. After a bit more Sammy era covers of Zep tunes, Sammy fronts Los Tres Gusanos with Craig Chaquico (Jefferson Starship) on Cream’s “Crossroads” at track 5. Eddies “fur Elise is in there too. The rest of disc 4 is essentially Sammy with EVH “unplugged” Track 21 is a spectacular acoustic version of “Right Here, Right Now” where Sammy sings to the small, intimate , but appreciative crowd that gets the rare treat of hearing Eddie play the entire song on piano only. If you’re a Sammy / EVH fan, this one track could be worth the price of the whole cd set.

It did say "For a few days." However, you said it's great for people to use for trading. It is, but it should NOT be traded in MP3 format. "MP3" is a "dirty word" when it comes to bootlegs. Unless there is simply no uncompressed version available (incredibly unlikely), MP3s shouldn't be traded unless you make it clear that they're MP3s or MP3 sourced.

Actually, you're right. I usually want to know if something came from an MP3. If it did, I don't trade it. However, some people probably wouldn't be so particular and that's how crappy sounding bootlegs get out there...

This post is now officially titled, "CD quality, my ass."
