    Default The Wolfgang Guitar(s) thread...

    Hey Gang-
I thought this might make for a good topic...the Wolfgang, and all the models related. I currently own 2 of them, and love that damn neck! The body shape ain't too shabby, either. I have 2 Specials...and I've wondered about the other models, such as a Special Flametop, and the original Wolfgang-the one with the Tone knob. Can I hear some oppions about these others? Anyone made any interresting mods? Now that Eddie is not with Peavey anymore, do you think people will abandon these guitars for a time, much like what happened with the Kramer guitars?-Red43j

I currently own a usa special. Fantastic, the neck gets dirty really quickly. I've owned a korean special aswell, and i have to say it's just not the same, the korean ones just feel cheap. I own an axis also ( can't afford an EVH! ), i think the axis is a nicer overall guitar, but the wolfie has better pickups. Overall the wolfgang is the best guitar around for the money, I can't think of anything else that performs aswell as it does in it's price range. Just my opinion

I own a black patent pending standard, made in November of 1996. The best feeling guitar I've ever played, including other wolfies. The neck is definitely the best thing about it, then the pups.

    About the Flametop Special...
I hear a lot about The Standards, and the Painted Specials, but really nothing about the Flametop Specials...the sound, pros, cons, etc. Later this year, I think I'm gonna break down an buy one off of Ebay, methinks, but I have yet to really hear anyone review one-like, does it come close to the EBMM EVH?-Red43j

    i have a flametop standard.

    unfuckingbelievable guitar.

i will never play another type of electric again ... none of them compare for my liking.

now that ed is gone from peavey, the stigma of playing something so closely associated with him is gone as well.

i consider it one of those happy accidents in the universe, where all the planets lined up and not only was the guitar designed by the best player in the universe, it actually is a piece of engineering art. it looks great, it feels great and it plays great.

i gotta buy a coupla ivory and black standards sometime for backup as they are no longer made.

I have an ernie ball music man EVH. Got it in 92. The best guitar i have ever played. I Don't really play anything else. The guitar is just perfect... the neck the pickups...just amazing. I bought a wolfgang and sold it. Just isn't as good as the music man to me.

Do you by chance know the major differences between a EBMM EVH and and EBMM Axis, and throw in the Peavey Wolfgang Special Flametop, because it is similar...? Thanks-Red43J

    anything tube.

although i can't find an amp i like, some day i'm going to have one made.

the sound characteristics that i like about the wolf is its clean tone. i can't describe it but it's the nicest clean tone to my ears - which is the most important part as you can add effects later on top of it. i've found if i a guitar has a weak clean tone the crunch isn't going to sound as good (although pickups and the magic in the fingers has a lot to do with that so it's hard to tell sometimes where it starts and ends).

i like musicmans as well, when the wolf came out tho, they sounded totally different from the ebmm and my ear just gravitated toward that.

both guitars have wonderfull unique sounds.

I have a Ivory White Wolfgang US Std which a pat pending model.

The seriel # is 91001227, can anyone give me a date when this was made?

I have had it for around 3 years now (got it used), its well played, the body has a few dings and scratches but it fits like a glove. I clean the neck a couple of times a year which I really enjoy doing, and it will need doing again in a month or so.

Mine is ran at present through a Boogie Rect-o-verb combo (which I am selling btw), but it sounds GREAT through whatever I put it through.

    EVH/Axis differences:

    1. Volume knob now labeled "Volume" on Axis, instead of "Tone" on EVH.
    2. Axis pickup selector switch relocated to below volume knob instead of near lower horn on EVH.
    3. Axis neck at base increased in width by 1/32" to lessen/prevent high E slippage.
    4. Saddles on Floyd rest strings directly across, EVH had offset saddles.
    5. Pickup wiring on Axis has third wire added for more switching options, only two wires on EVH pickups (aside from wiring, they are the same pickups either way)
    6. Body contour added on torso area of Axis, straight body (no cut) on EVH.
    7. Lack of signature (obviously) on Axis.
