    Tsunami Aid:Concert of Hope

Did anyone watch this last night, or listen to it on your local Clear Channel station? Live performances by various artists.

I thought John Mayer sounded pretty good. Roger Waters and Eric Clapton did a good job on Wish You Were Here. You can buy it here http://musicstore.connect.com/promos/tsunami/index.html

I just bought it, sounds good.

It's odd that Sheryl Crow is not available. I thought her performance was excellent.

I like how they cut D. Ross off at the end.
Did she look good or what?
WTF? this was about her not Tsunami Aid right?

John played like he meant it, not bad. He'll have a storied career.
Sarah was good as usual and Norah was charming.
Modonna rode a Lennon tune to death, IMO
    Elton was predictably himself too,
I'm kinda tired of his Princess Di performance @ every single benefit show.
There were many, "its a good time to go see what else is on, where's the remote" moments.

    Highlight for me
    was Waters/Clapton with backing vocals.

Ignored all the others like Marooned and Nelle et al.

This benefit show could have been so much more,
it was as lifeless as the shores they're trying to help.
    What a shame.
Then when it ended it was back to
    Toyota commercials and pimping Pepsi-Cola

I agree with you on most points, especially Madonna desecrating "Imagine". Man...was her voice flat or what? Off-key, out of tune...she was all of it. Sarah's voice was in top form, and, since I'm a major Elton John fan, I disagree with the "Princess Di" comment, seeing as how last night was more about keeping the performance simple, which is why he and all the other artists kept everything to a minimum, he did a solo version of "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" and not "Candle In The Wind".

Brian Wilson just does not have it anymore. He and Madonna were partners in the flat performance department. WTF was Nelly doing on there? Sheryl Crow and Norah Jones were great, too, as were Waters/Clapton (from what I saw...I missed most of it).

What I couldn't believe was how Leno was pimping out the signed coffee cup and telephone for over $3,000. Yeah...let me whip out my checkbook, bro. What the hell kind of shit was that? I thought he was joking, until he kept at it. I understand it was for a very worthy cause, but that was just a bit too much.

I agree with your take on EJ, it's just not my cup of coffee.
Seems he's on everyones A-list when it comes to benefits
it amounts to a lot of exposure.
    Sometimes that's good
    sometimes its whoring.
Things were by and large toned down in reflection of the cause.
But that's why D.Ross was so out of line.

Overall knowing Roger Waters was on caused me to buy in.

Just checked out http://musicstore.connect.com/promos/tsunami/index.html, and noticed not only is Sheryl Crow's performance omitted, which is a shame, but so is Madonna's.

Not a big loss there. I like Madonna's music, but her version of "Imagine" was abominable. Forgot to mention that Gloria Estefan was pretty good, too. I'll probably download and buy the performances of EJ and Waters/Clapton, but that's about it.

I missed Diana Ross. Was she doing her usual over-the-top, it's all about me routine again?

Maybe I was hearing things, but...right near the end Jay Leno was up by the 'celebrities' answering the phones and said, "you can talk to so-and-so, Ray Charles is here and Jaime Fox..."

Stevie Wonder was sitting next to Jaime Fox..Jay really screwed up!

I caught the last couple of minutes of John Mayer's set...he was definitely feeling it. He's a great musician, but I just can't get into his whole Mr. Sensitive/Your Body Is A Wonderland/Dave Matthews vocal pop thing. I bet it gets him some really high-quality poon, though.

I though Jay meant Jaime Foxx since he played Ray Charles in a movie.

Thanks man!!! I was hoping this would happen, how rare Roger Waters and Clapton together! Mayer sounded great too! Definitly the 2 highlights.

No one seems to be sure about it - from the message boards on her site people think it's a new song called Free to Fly. You can download it here:

I only saw a few acts but the one I didn't care for was Clapton and Waters. I just didn't like Waters' voice on that song. Musically it was good but I just didn't like the sound of his voice.
