    Default Al's Panama snare sound

Every time I listen to Panama, I have a hard time hearing Al's snare, it is completely buried by the bass drum and bass guitar. Anyone ever notice this?

His snare is so crisp and uniquely identifiable on every other track on the album. Don't get me wrong, one of my favorite VH tunes due to Ed's killer guitar tone and phrasing but the more I listen the more I notice this snare thing. It sounds as if he is kicking a bass drum every time he hits the snare perhaps minimizing the distintiveness he usually has with the snare.

Not sure, not a drummer but just an observation.

I agree. I myself have always complained about the snare not being loud enough on the song.

I've never really noticed the snare sound but it seems fine to me. The guitar is definitely more up in the mix so maybe that's why the sound is a little muffled. I have the remastered version so maybe it's different on the original.

I heard this on the radio a few days ago and I could barely hear the snare. I never noticed that on the version that the radio stations have, the snare is barely audible. I have the remaster and maybe the snare was redone because it sounds nothing like the version I heard on the radio.

I read in an interview with Eddie, that this was his attempt at writing an AC/DC-like song. Big loud and powerful. Perhaps they mixed down the snare and went heavy on with the guitar on purpose.
