Yes, they had some great live shows, all great bands do, but to say Morrison was unprofessional is being kind.
Can't really argue with you on that but he's still my favorite. He's the prototype. The leather...the hair..."swagger"...unpredictable etc.

Chris, whose vocals are more unpredictable than the current version of David Lee Roth?

Maybe I should watch this "Doors" movie as I never got the appeal of these guys. I like this, though:

Reminds me of the quality variety shows we had when I was a kid. I think I hear a bass, but I do not see anyone playing one? Could've been miming, I suppose, but the vocals are at least different from the record.

The Doors used a bass player in the studio. I'm not 100% sure about the debut...I think it may have been a female bass player...not Carole Kaye but from the 2nd album on was a local player named Doug Lubahn. On LA Woman, was Elvis's guy Jerry Scheff.

Jim usually sang live on the variety shows, to the recorded track.

LA Woman...we've all heard it...we've all seen the footage but this video and how it's put together, encapsulates, why they're in my top 3. Just so original and so different from their contemporaries.

it was a guy from the Wrecking Crew on the first album - forget his name (I read more on the situation before bed last night), but apparently live it was just the four of them! I thought I had read a long time ago that they had a touring bass player, but I guess not.

I think Manzarek played the bass lines with his left hand on keys when they were out on tour.

    Bass players were studio only.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

I think they talked about going out on tour with a bass player after Morrison came back from Paris. Whether it was something they'd given serious thought to, or just a stoned suggestion I have no idea.

Whether or not they had a bass player wasn't the problem live. Which Morrison showed up was.
