    Default ELVIS

A day late to mark (what would've been) his 70th birthday, but I know there's a few people on here that appreciate the King and his music. A lot of people don't get ELVIS, and back when I was a kid, I didn't either. But as I got older, I got fascinated in the man and his career, and eventually the music. ELVIS is so more than the sum of the caricatures that have arisen since his untimely passing back in 1977. The boy could sing just about anything and sing it well - rock (of the time), country, gospel, standards, soul - just an awesome, awesome voice. I think his big downfall was the way Colonel Parker handled him - kinda the Gene Simmons of his day - making ELVIS more about an image he could sell instead of the music. His "Memphis Mafia" buddies didn't help either, enabling him to destroy himself. But he left us with a legacy of music that will never grow old. If you like the music, let us hear about it. If you don't - when's the last time you gave it a good honest listen?

Elvis was the King! No one, past, present, or future will ever have the presence and influence Elvis had. It took four of the Beatles to be as big as one Elvis. (no pun intended) Even in his later years, he still had an amazing voice and stage presence that captured the masses. Viva the King!

I love Elvis!!! I grew up on him cause my mom loved him - she even got to see him in Mobile, AL 1977. No one can even come close to what Elvis did in his lifetime!

Did anybody watch the miniseries that was on CBS back in May? I finally watched it over the past couple of nights - not bad, though I think the actor that portrayed ELVIS might've been better suited to play David Cassidy! Could've done another two hours as they ended at the "'68 Comeback Special". Was fun watching Randy Quaid as Colonel Tom Parker.

I love Elvis.... how can you not? Around here there is a guy that does Elvis about every 6 months or so. He goes to Wal-Mart to perfom. It is amazing the crowd that guys gets just because he is Elvis! He sang to me while I was in line! I also have Suspicious Minds as one of ring tones on my phone!

Elvis is the man. It all begins and ends with him. Best voice ever and a helluva piano player. As big as he is, he is still perhaps the most underrated talent in music history. People get hung up in the goofiness of it all but all you gotta do is go back to the music to see this guy was on another planet.

I never got what it was about Elvis but as I got older, now I do. He was a one of a kind. Can't imagine him getting old.
