Ten Words and A Love Eternal are pretty good ballads on the new album, but IMO they don't compare to AWMAWY. If you haven't heard Love Thing from Crystal Planet, I think that ranks right up there as one of his best ballads.

I saw Joe for the first time on the "Surfing" tour in '87/88 and was blown away. I also remember thinking "Who the hell is this Stu Hamm fellow?" I have seen him many times after and never been let down. Aways a stellar show. One of the best shows was in the early 90s for "The Extremist" tour. I took my Dad who at the time was probably the oldest dude in the venue at 60 years. I had just a great as time watchin' my Pa as I did Joe. He still talks about that show and we often relive that night. Good times for sure.

I got it... and two unreleased versions of Little Wing and Voodoo Chile. They're live tracks.

The album is great... Mostly ballads and rockers with a couple of outcasts out there like Crowd Chant and One Robots Dream that sounds like it could have been on Engines of Creation.

Satriani is the shit! I've been following him since I was in junior high. I remember him in an interview on MTV back in the late 1980s, and he just started playing Hendrix and Van Halen riffs with ease, and I thought that was the coolest thing. - then I went out and bought all his albums. I thought that he sounded a bit like Eddie, but also had his own sound as well. - you can also hear his influence a little bit in Vai and Hammett as well. He is simply amazing. I truly believe Eddie could at least match him (in the past at least), but he plays/writes songs which is different- the songs call for different melodies, arrangements, etc. I think Joe writes some good songs though too. Have you guys seen the live in San Francisco DVD? That's awesome. I hope to see him with Eric Johnson in NYC next month hopefully.

Digging on Super Colossal right now. Of the 3 I've listened to so far, I like
    "Crowd Chant".
I got it yesterday and have listened to it a few times. It's pretty good, about an hour of music, some rockers and good ballads mixed in as well. Joe is constantly challenging himself and continuing to put out great new music every couple of years.
Yep...

LIVE stuff notwithsatnding, I think this is his best stuff since Crystal Planet. I'm REALLY diggin' on Just Like Lightnin', It's So Good, A Cool New Way, Robot's Dream, & Movin' On. KILLER stuff, indeed...

I haven't see Joe or Eric in YEARS, so I'm REALLY hoping to catch their show this time...

Satch is an awesome player, but I've found there is not a lot of soul or feeling in his guitar playing, it's all about technique.

Always With Me.. Always With You, Tears In the Rain, Crying, Flying In a Blue Dream, Raspberry Jam...all of the Satriani Album should give you plenty of emotion err....Joe plays with emotion in all of his songs. I guess a few just do not get what Joe offers us. That is too bad IMO.
    Just go for it!

Gotta throw "Love Thing" into that list as well. That song is killer and has tons of feeling.

I find Joe is one of the few guitarists of his kind that can combine feel and technique in equal amounts. Besides that, he is great with his fans.

You've got that right, I saw one of his concerts last year and got to meet him and get his autograph and he was a great guy.
