"Flying in a Blue Dream" is still my favorite tune of Satch's 15 years later.

I just saw Joe live last night in Portland, OR and it kicked ass! I had a Platinum Ticket Package that allowed me to see some of the soundcheck, get a backstage tour, early entrance to the floor (it was GA), and meet and greet with Joe! It was awesome! About the concert, it was amazing. I was able to get front row on Joe's side and just watch him all night. He was incredible, it's scary how good he is. The band was tight, and they did a lot of jamming, which was cool but unexpected. They did a great extended version of Always With Me, Always With You. Satch Boogie was a highlight. Lords Of Karma was another surprise, and it sounded great.

I got into the venue with the other platinum ticket holders (about 10) between 4 and 5 and saw them finish up soundcheck with Satch Boogie, Time, Strange, and Starry Night. Then we got to go up on stage and look at everything and have our pictures taken next to the drums and Joe's guitars. Then we had an hour before being let in 15 minutes before everybody else. Like I said, I got front row in front of Joe! After the concert was the meet and greet, and because I'm under 21 they had to make a special arrangement for me to meet Joe because they were going to do it in a bar downstairs. I waited for a while and finally got to meet him. He was really nice and signed a promo pic and my Surfing With The Alien liner notes. I was so nervous, but oh well, he probably sees it all the time. Then I had a few pics taken with him and that was that.

I'd say the price ($200) was well worth it for the Platinum package. I paid only $25 more than the Van Halen 4 Star package that got me a seat in the first 20 rows and a laminate that didn't get me anything. If you're a diehard Joe fan and he's coming to your town, don't hesitate to go all the way and spend the money, it's worth it.

Here are the songs they played, not in this order though:

    Hordes Of Locusts
    Surfing With The Alien
Always With Me, Always With You
    Satch Boogie
    Lords Of Karma
    Flying In A Blue Dream
    Strange
    Friends
    War
    Summer Song

    Up In The Sky
    House Full Of Bullets

    Time

    Sleep Walk

One Satch song I've really been digging lately is "Time" from Crystal Planet. That whole album is amazing.

Sweet! Hopefully that means a tour as well. I've been beating the hell out of the Live in San Fran set lately. I think Love Thing is going to stop working soon.

Right on! I would love to see Satch in concert BUT he never comes to Idaho or anywhere close (unless you count portland and seattle). But yeah, I love his tone on "Always With Me, Always With You", and pretty much all of the Surfing with the Alien album. I unfortunatley dont have any of his other albums except for his greatest hits which kicks ass in itself. Im still lookin to see the G3 05' with Petrucci.

We also talked about our son's names. His is Zachary Zane and my 2 boys names are Zachary and Zane....only by coincidence though. He thought it was "crazy" that the names are exact...I only new his sons name from his ZZ song. He told me the meanings of the name...then I had to talk to Steve Vai....now THAT was a cool night that I will always remember!

I have the new album, got it yesterday along with the signed insert. Have only had time to listen to a few songs but definitely like what I hear. He'll be in town tomorrow night signing autographs, so I'm gonna head to Mesa to meet the man in person. Actually, I think I'll go finish listening to it now!!!

I got it yesterday and have listened to it a few times. It's pretty good, about an hour of music, some rockers and good ballads mixed in as well. Joe is constantly challenging himself and continuing to put out great new music every couple of years. Looking forward to seeing him live again when he makes it up to Oregon.

Ive always liked his ballads. Always With Me, Always With You is probably my favorite out of all of his ballads. Are there any on the new album that can compare to that?
