    The Joe Satriani Thread

I've been a huge Satch fan since his first Rockline radio appearance. Are there any other Satchaholics here?

Satch is "not of this earth." He's my second favorite guitarist behind Eddie. I have all of his albums, and saw him live on the G3 tour in 2003. Surfing With The Alien is one of the first rock albums I ever heard, and it still blows me away. Satch Boogie and Flying In A Blue Dream are tied for my favorite song.

Best way to hear Satch is live. I love the Live in San Fran Disc. The 2nd song on disc two is called One Big Rush. That song gets me pumped up ever time i hear it. Right Now Joe caught the Flu a few weeks ago and he had to cancel a few dates. Thats what they said in his fan mail. But Joe is just awsome to listen too.

Joe is the man! If the dude can teach Steve Vai and Kirk Hammet, 2 very recognizable players then he must be doing something

It's not so much just Vai and Hammett, but several other well known players in very diverse genres, including David Bryson (Counting Crows), Larry LaLonde (Primus), Alex Skolnick and Charlie Hunter.

I saw Satch at Lamours Far East in Commack on Long Island in the 80s. I was first row on the barriades. It was like seeing God; he was possessed. The crowd was pushing towards him and he had to stop the show over and over again to protect us from being crushed. Only a few hundered could even fit in there. It was probably the best rock show I've ever seen.

Satch is a fantastic guitar player, IMO he brought instrumental guitar music to the mainstream. I met him and had a nice converstation with him. We talked about making it in the music business these days and he gave me a few really good pointers that are beginning to unfold, but like he said, it WILL take a lot of time and hard work.
We also talked about our son's names. His is Zachary Zane and my 2 boys names are Zachary and Zane....only by coincidence though. He thought it was "crazy" that the names are exact...I only new his sons name from his ZZ song. He told me the meanings of the name...then I had to talk to Steve Vai....now THAT was a cool night that I will always remember!
    Just go for it!

I've had the priviledge of meeting Joe 3 times, and I've had the same experience as you every time. He's just a down to earth guy who happens to be an amazing guitarist and great with the fans.

Hell, yeah...Satch is da man! My little boy will forever be able to say his first rock concert was Joe Satriani (at age 7!). He saw the ad in the paper and BEGGED me to take him....what a proud moment!!

I forgot to post this the other day, I just bought a $200 Platinum Ticket Package for his show in Portland, OR on April 16th! It's going to be awesome! I'll be able to meet him and have a photo taken with him. And less than a week later I'm going to see Steve Vai at the same venue. There are more tour dates here: http://www.satriani.com/2004/road/
