I really get your meaning, as i too think BATM was the last really classic sounding Ozzy album.
Stuff like Centre of Eternity, just has that sound.

Having said that, i enjoy both the Ultimate Sin & Tears, though they feel like a completely
different animal to Blizzard, Madman & BATM.

    Tears just sounds so 90's!
    Same with Metallica's Black album.

It has that big, bombastic production & songwriting.

I enjoy the material on Tears, but it also has this obvious/radio thing, happening:
Mama, i'm coming home, still kinda bugs me to this day.

So whats the deal with the new Ozzy album?

    Who is playing guitar?

Ultimate Sin is my favorite. I really like Jake's playing on that album, and I remember Jake criticizing the production because he said the guitars were really up front and over the top, but Ron Nevison totally changed it. But still, it's a different Ozzy at that point. I did not like No Rest for the Wicked at all. I had already moved on to heavier stuff by the time No More Tears came out. There were some good songs, but again, to me it just wasn't Ozzy anymore.

I've only heard the first two singles from the new album (Straight To Hell & Under The Graveyard).

Pitch controlled vocals aside, song wise, they are the best things in regards to Oz's solo career since at least Ozzmosis. Andrew Watt did a phenomenal job with production and guitar duties. Zakk wouldn't have added a damn thing, except pinch harmonics where they don't belong & the sloppiest vibrato in the world, second only to Kirk Hammett.

Now, if the events of 1986 hadn't happened & we had a shot of another album with Jake E. Lee? I'd be on that like flies on shit.

His vibrato ain't sloppy, and nowhere near Kirk's.

You can love it or hate it, but the dude had a mile wide vibrato that is all his own.

The guy is a meticulously clean player.
There's zero slop in anything guitar related that he does.

True, although I did see him play sloppy live with Oz once coz he was drunk as hell, but that vibrato is wide and controlled and immediately recognizable.

Yeah, I never saw Zak as sloppy. He's a really good player. That said, not a fan. LOL.
Overload on the pinches. Could never stand that. Most of all I just didn't care for the tunes.
After BATM, and parts of Sin, I was completely out on Ozzy. For me, the classic Ozzy was gone.

I much prefer Jake & Randy, Zakk is full-on 99 percent of the time....BUT....
there's no denying the guy is one hell of a guitar player.

I think his mile wide vibrato is as signature as his harmonics.

But i do agree that Kirk has THE worst vibrato of any professional guitarist i've ever heard.
    He rarely bends in tune.

He's usually a semi tone below or above, and it's super annoying.

LOL. I was always curious why Kirk did that. It works 1% of the time, but yeah, the rest it's just out of tune.

I know it never would happen but I would like it if Lynch would do an album with Ozzy.

Zakk can play. Its that he uses the pinch harmonic more than the 5 of the most prevalent pinch harmonic users combined. You would think somebody would say "you know how people rag on Kirk for using the wah too much? You kind of got the same thing going with that pinch harmonic"

SNL needs to do a skit of Zakk Wylde joining Blue Oyster Cult as their new lead guitarist. "Needs more Cowbell" meets "Needs more Pinch Harmonics"
