Danny Boy getting the Royale treatment?
    Source: Moviehole

I'm getting about as tired of these Bond rumours as I am of those woeful multicoloured pens (you know the ones? two of the colours are usually always ink-less), but not to worry, like Britney Spears' musical career - it'll hopefully be all over soon.

Latest rumblings have from England have it that Daniel Craig - currently starring in "Layer Cake", and before that, played up to Angelina Jolie in "Tomb Raider" - has signed a three-picture deal to play Martini sipping 007.

According to The Sun newspaper, Bond producer Barbara Broccoli is expected to sign up the actor formally in the next few weeks.

Mind you, the press has also announced that Julian McMahon, Clive Owen and Bob Newhart have also scored the gig in recent times, so take it with a grain of salt until it's announced. No - if only to save myself from answering a dozen emails - Newhart was never up for it. (They're talking about him for the Iron Man pic). Wasn't it The Sun who said Colin Salmon would be the first Black bond, a couple of months back?

Meanwhile, TV's Entertainment Tonight got to the top of the rumours about Pierce Brosnan apparently eyeing a return. It's as false as Jacko's nose apparently. Brosnan is indeed 'still' out of the picture. Which - especially if they're casting Craig, who looks about as Bond as Matthew Perry - is sad, sad news. Was personally hoping for Brosnan to return.

    Here we go again....

    Daniel Craig Denies Bond Rumours
    Source: DarkHorizons

British actor Daniel Craig has said he was not going to be the next James Bond, following a flurry of stories today claiming he had won the part reports The Statesman.

The Sun today claimed that Craig had been offered a three-film deal by producer Barbara Broccoli starting with the upcoming "Casino Royale". A spokeswoman for the star denied the reports but wouldn't comment further. Eon Productions, which makes the Bond movies, also refused to comment.

BBC News has been fed up with all the speculation and spoke with Eon directly, asking when in the world they will comment on this latest talk. Their official response - "We're waiting for our director [Martin Campbell] to finish the film he's currently working on [The Lgend of Zorro]. Then I'm sure we'll be commenting a lot on all sorts of things" said a spokesperson.

Will Pierce Brosnan return as 007?
After all the denials, he may return for two more films
    Source: EntertainmentWeekly
Would all the nice young British actors please put down those martini glasses and step away from the Aston Martin? According to a report in Variety magazine, rumors that Pierce Brosnan's reign as 007 has come to an end may have been premature.

Speculation about who'll play the title role in the next James Bond film has been simmering for months, reaching a fever pitch in the last few days as Sony completes its deal to acquire MGM, the studio behind the Bond franchise. While British tabloids this week reported little-known Daniel Craig (Enduring Love) was about to ink a deal to play the dashing British agent, Variety quoted U.S. sources as saying he was no more a frontrunner than previously mentioned hopefuls Clive Owen, Dominic West, Gerard Butler, and Julian McMahon.

Furthermore, the entertainment trade publication reported on other sources as saying Brosnan who has played Bond in the series' last four films was back in the picture, working on a $40 million deal with the Broccoli family (who control the franchise) to return to the coveted role for two more pictures. Other rumors had Brosnan returning for only one film, which would be followed in quick succession by a second flick introducing a new 007.

MGM denied any decision had been made, while Brosnan's reps denied the actor was in negotiations to die another day.

Fooking A man, would that Chopping Broccoli Beeatch make up her mind. For me, I would love to see Pierce back. I think he's up there as one of the best 007's with the likes of Connery and Dalton

Just make up your mind and tell us who is going to be Bond...

    Bring back Pierce Brosnan!!!

I love all of the movies in this series & Brosnan is second only to Sean Connery IMHO. Roger Moore wasn't bad either, but Brosnan had a ruthless way about him like Connery.

Another thing worth mentioning is that "Casino Royale" was the title of the first Ian Flemming James Bond book, and the only one of the original books not to have been made into a proper film.

There have been 2 previous James Bond films made using the title "Casino Royale", however neither of them are anywhere near as good as the official Bond films.

Obviously the "Casino Royale" most people know is the one starring Peter Sellers, Ursula Andress, David Niven & Woody Allen, but well before that a live to television version was made starring American Barry Nelson as James Bond and Peter Lorre as Le Chiffre. This was made in 1954 and is in fact the first Bond movie, pre dating the Connery debut "Dr. No".

Bring on a proper version of "Casino Royale", I can't wait!!!

Roger Moore wants back in Bond franchise
    Source: Moviehole

Sean Connery has expressed a passing interest in playing such a part, and now another ex-007, Roger Moore, has announced he's keen to return to the franchise - as a baddie.

According to mi6.co.uk, The 77-year-old actor thinks producers should team him and British television personality Bruce Forsyth up, and have them play an evil duo trying to outsmart 007.

Moore says, "I would really like to play a baddie and I think Bruce and I would make excellent henchman or evil baddies together."

Meanwhile, the rumour mill keeps swirling about who'll be playing the next super-spy. Seems Clive Owen is still the frontrunner for "Casino Royale" honors, but Ioan Gruffudd, Julian McMahon and Daniel Craig are still apparently in the race too. The studio has officially ruled out a Pierce Brosnan return. Guess we'll find out soon....hopefully.

    Official: Brosnan NOT Bond
    Eon sets the record straight.
    Source: IGNFF

April 18, 2005 - The rumor mill went wild recently when it was reported online that Pierce Brosnan might reprise his role as James Bond after all in the next 007 film, Casino Royale. The rumors claimed that all of Brosnan's persistent denials were simply a ploy waged by his camp in order to secure him a better deal.

It appears, however, that Brosnan meant what he said.

The Guardian contacted Eon Productions, the producers of the Bond films, to clarify the matter. "We haven't even started preproduction," an Eon spokesperson advised the newspaper.

"There is no James Bond yet cast. All we can confirm is that it definitely will not be Pierce Brosnan, the film will be called Casino Royale, it is being written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade and it will be directed by Martin Campbell. If you want anything more, ring back in a couple of months."

So there you have it: Pierce Brosnan's days as 007 are over (or at least until he pulls a Diamonds Are Forever or Never Say Never Again) and no successor has been chosen yet.

Dame Judi Dench on the next 007
    Source: Moviehole

The New York Post spoke to Judi Dench, 'M' from the recent Bond blockies, who had something interesting to say about who'll be playing the next James Bond.

Clive? Daniel? Ioan? Hugh? Pauly? Nope - Dame Judi seems to think that Pierce Brosnan is indeed going to be in front of a lens for "Casino Royale".

Says the actress, "Despite the fact that everyone on the face of the Earth has been tested as his possible replacement, he'll be doing it again, and it'll be announced come summer."

Interestingly enough, one of the men rumoured to be replacing Brosnan, Daniel Craig, announced last week that such rumours were inaccurate.

I wouldn't at all be surprised if EON recruits the chesty Brosnan back - if even due to the internet backlash arising from his tasteless dumping from the franchise.

    Craig confirms 007 rumours
    Source: Moviehole

Seems Daniel Craig - about as fitting as kids socks in adults shoes, if you ask me - was indeed one of the contenders to inherit a licence to kill from Mi6.

Craig told IGN FilmForce that the rumours are true, he was indeed in talks to front "Casino Royale".

"It was a surreal time to have the studio phoning you up saying you've got the job and then the Broccolis saying nothing. ... I just let it go", says the "Tomb Raider" star. "I'm a big believer that if they want you. You don't want to fight, you want to all be on the same page from the very beginning. I think I would have probably been a bit too radical for it."

Ultimately, "I don't know what the deal is [with Bond], I don't know. There's a lot of rumors floating around. It's not a bad position to be in. If even half of them or a third of them are true, it's not a bad position to be in. I got a text message on my phone saying 'Congratulations.' I was like, 'What the(expletive).' That was news to me. I won't lie to you, there's been some sort of move in my direction but there's been a move in a lot of people's direction. Possibly it's a way of trying to raise debate. They throw out some names and then people start discussing it and then they can make a decision."

Craig's "Layer Cake" director Matthew Vaughn - now doing "X-Men 3" - confirmed that he too was circling "Casino Royale" at one point.

"It was a strange situation. The truth of the matter is I was offered it by MGM but not by the Broccolis. There was smoke or there was fire."

The Name's Bond, Now Lets Go Get Laid
    Source: DarkHorizons

CommanderBond.Net has learned that Eon Productions and Sony are considering some VERY young actors for the role of James Bond in Casino Royale. Some of the actors being considered are unknowns in their mid and early 20s with one hot contender a mere pup who's all of 22.

The search for a young Bond talk comes from recent comments of director Martin Campbell that Casino Royale will portray Bond's first mission as a double-oh agent. Then again is it even vaguely believable that a man could reach the rank of Commander in the Royal Navy and achieve 00 status in the British Secrete Service before the age of 30?

Then again remember this is the franchise in which Denise Richards can portray a nuclear physicist working out in Azerbaijan with a name like Christmas Jones. A recent interview over at MI6 with Producer Michael G. Wilson yielded no further information on casting short of the fact that the casting decision will have to be a consensus between Wilson, Barbara Broccoli, director Martin Campbell, Columbia Pictures chairman Amy Pascal and people in her office.
