I agree with the movie flopping if this happens, but it won't be the end of Bond. The comic relief and over the top stunts is what defines the franchise.

I don't go to Bond movies for stark realisim. I go for chicks, gadgets and explosions.

Stark realisim is Borne Identity and Black Hawk Down.

Exactly. I want loads of double entendres, humorous exchanges between Bond and Q, lots of boobies and ass, gadgets, explosions, and incredible stunts. I admit that they went a little too far with the CGI last time, but they need to stick with what's worked for over 30 years! I really hope they don't ruin the series by turning it into something it's not supposed to be.

    Clive Back in Bond Mix?!
    A reported casting brouhaha.
    Source:IGNFF

March 17, 2005 - MI6 points out Richard Kay's column in today's Daily Mail, which claims there is a behind-the-scenes brouhaha unfolding over the casting of the sixth big-screen James Bond.

The Daily Mail column mirrors online reports from earlier this week that final casting approval lies with Sony Pictures chairwoman Amy Pascal. Sony now owns Bond studio MGM so that gives her a say.

Pascal reportedly favors Oscar-nominee Clive Owen, 40, for the role. Perhaps she saw the poll conducted by Amazon.co.uk and the Internet Movie Database where Owen received a third of the readers' votes on who should be christened the next Bond.

EON Productions topper and Bond producer Barbara Broccoli is said to favor lesser known thesp Daniel Craig, 37. His credits include Layer Cake, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Road to Perdition.

Another reported finalist, Julian McMahon, is no longer mentioned. Owen had reportedly been cast in the remake of The Poseidon Adventure, which would have conflicted with Casino Royale, but Ain't It Cool News claims that "Clive is absolutely not involved" with Poseidon.

"Everyone involved in the next film, Casino Royale, is increasingly anxious for one to be chosen. They are praying that the girls can finally make their minds up," alleged sources advised the Daily Mail.

It should be noted that Casino Royale director Martin Campbell worked with Owen on the flop Beyond Borders.

    Dr. Doom: The New 007?
Web rumors swirl around Julian McMahon.
    Source: IGNFF

March 22, 2005 - A poster at the blog Popbitch claims that "Julian McMahon has been offered the role" of James Bond in Casino Royale. "He wants four film contract, they have only offered two. Negotiations are on going," reports the anonymous blogger.

Naturally, this could be a total crock but the buzz has been for weeks now that McMahon and Daniel Craig (Lara Croft: Tomb Raider) were the finalists to take over from Pierce Brosnan.

The 36-year-old Aussie's credits include the TV series Nip/Tuck and Charmed, as well as the forthcoming Fantastic Four movie where he plays Dr. Doom.

Oft-rumored Bond contender Clive Owen has denied yet again that he has been offered the role of 007. "It's the same as always. There's nothing to it whatsoever. It's just people writing about it. But ... it's not substantiated at all," Owen informed Sci Fi Wire.

Orlando Bloom Up For Young James Bond?
Source: Dark Horizons March 28, 2005

Sky Movies reports (via Dark Horizons) that Orlando Bloom is up for the role of young James Bond:

Sky Movies reports the British hunk is in serious talks about a series of films based on an idea by a new author about the early life of the MI6 agent. Bloom says "I love the idea, in principle, as he can be far more adventurous and do more stunts. This is as near as I think I will get to playing the grown up James for the next 20 years."

This film series, which Miramax and Dreamworks have both been barracking for already, would be based on a new series of young 007 novels which began this year with 'Silverfin' which has already become a best seller.

Owen Finally Confirmed as Sixth Bond?
    Source: IESB March 29, 2005

After years of rumor and speculation, actor Clive Owen may finally have been nailed down for the role that everyone on the planet seems to think he should play!

The Movie Reporter at IESB has a picture of Owen with the enigmatic caption:

"BREAKING NEWS Clive Owen confirmed to be the next James Bond? More Details to Follow 3/28/05"

If what currently is still just a rumor turns out to be true, Owen will follow the likes of Sean Connery, Roger Moore and most recently Pierce Brosnan as agent 007 in the upcoming adaptation of Ian Fleming's Casino Royale, the 21st James Bond film. That title was originally used for a 1967 spy spoof starring Peter Sellers, David Niven and Woody Allen, but this would be the first time that Fleming's novel would be given the "Broccoli treatment."

Martin Campbell, who directed Owen with Angelina Jolie in Beyond Borders, has already been hired to direct the 21st Bond film.

    Bond producers want Brosnan back?
    Source: Moviehole

After all the rumours, all the speculation, those gazillion auditions, and of course, bad blood, is Piece Brosnan able to return to the Bond franchise?

According to a scooper for Dark Horizons, Sony are apparently looking at snagging Brosnan back, fearing a newcomer to the series might be a bit of a cinematic wound - a'la bringing in Timothy Dalton in the late 80's.

"...ultimately, the filmmakers would like Pierce Brosnan back. All the stuff we heard about Brosnan being out is just a ploy from both camps. The negotiations between Brosnan and Eon came to an end because, in the last year, things were up in the air, thanks to all the organizational changes taking place", says a scooper for the site.

"Brosnan/Eon camps are still going through the motions of bluffing each other: an echo of the old poker game that Cubby Broccoli went through with Roger Moore. Moore frequently announced that he wouldn't be back".

Apparently, "the mood around here (at least for now) is that he'll be back. Hence, the reluctance of the filmmakers to come right out and announce that they have parted ways with Brosnan. If anything, they've kept the door open by not making any casting announcements in the recent press release. So much money is at stake and the word is, SONY are not in a gambling mood. They could lose more with an unknown actor, or with an experienced but unpopular actor. They're well aware that you just can't place any actor in this role; and with Brosnan's star power and successful track record ($1 billion from four films), he's currently the strong money-maker for the Bond films".

The scooper says it's likely Brosnan will be reinstated for "Casino Royale" and possible Bond 22 as well.
