Default the best DT album to buy

I'm really liking DT. I don't know a whole lot about them. Every song I've heard from them SMOKES!! Sounds truely like musicians music! One of my buds turned me on to a few songs and I hear them on XM the boneyard sometimes. I want to get a CD of theirs ( Well probably more once I hear a whole CD)
Question to you DT freaks.....if you HAD to choose one album..which one would buy? If you guys are comparing their concept album(s) to the Wall, I bet it's gotta be good.

That's a tough question. Scenes From A Memory was the first DT album I bought and I love it, it's my favorite. I think it's one of the greatest concept albums of all-time. Images And Words is another great album. But if you only want to buy one I'd suggest SFAM.

I guess it depends on a few things... Would you rather have a concept album or not? How much do you want to spend?

If you're looking for a concept album, Scenes from a Memory would probably be the one that's the closest to The Wall in terms of overall sound. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is a 2 disc set so it costs a little more. The first disc has 5 songs and are not conceptual. The second disc is an 8 song concept album. I can't choose a favorite between SfaM and SDoIT though...

If you're looking for a non-concept album, I would recommend either Images & Words or Awake. Again, I couldn't choose one over the other.

What would any of you other fans recommend?

I read somewhere, an interview with Jordan, that they won't be doing an album like Train Of Thought, he said that was an album they just needed to get out of their system. Whatever they do, it's sure to be spectacular.

Man, what a hard question, if l wanted to listen to their metal side, l'd go for Train of thought or awake. If l wanted their melodic/U2 inspired album, l'd go for Falling Into Infinity, if l wanted a full on Prog album, Images and Words. But still yet it's hard to decide. If l had to choose an album, it would either be Images and Word, this album is what got the world listening to them, probably one of their best display of musical/song writing genius, l would also choose Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, i think this album gets over looked ALOT. This album has a bit of everything on it. But whatever album l do choose it's sure to be great, they never fail to satisfy.

I like DT, I have a couple of their Cd's and I like "A Change of Seasons". The covers on there are awesome esp. the Led Zep medley. I have a bootleg somewhere of them doing the entire "Master Of Puppets" record by Metallica. Kick ass

Thanks everyone for the input on DT CD's. Looks like from listening to you guys, they don't have a "bad" one. Right now I'm leaning towards Scenes from a Memory or Images and Word.

Unfortunately? It's Tony Levin!!!! I wish I was taht unfortunate.

Petrucci's solo album,Suspended Animation, is coming out soon too. Can't wait. The Petrucci/Rudess album is bad ass also. It's just them playing live and imporvising for the most part.

I've been a DT fan since Images and Words and are one of my favorite bands on the planet. As far as albums go I tend to lean towards Awake for some reason. After that SFAM or Images and Words. Another good album that features James LaBrie on vocals is Ayreon's:Human Equation, a great concept album about a guy in a coma who is going through all the events in his life. Each emotion he feels is done by a different singer, but LaBrie is the main guy check it out if you get a chance, it's well worth it.
