led zeppeling is like classical music ... not a bad song in the bunch.

i think zep is an outstanding example of a band composed of members that were all truly talented musicians.

never mind the performance bit, all modern bands are mostly performance, a few have half a clue about what they are doing, but zep ... man oh man has that band ever stood up well?

their sound is so refreshing even what, 30 years later?

and they were also smart enough to call it quits when bonhan left us. they just knew the magic was gone and continued on in the shadow of greatness, not pretending like they still had it, unlike some bands we know *cough*

    bonham is king!

yeah I'm in that age group or close to it :)

Grew up loving them, spent many a midnight show seeing the song remains the same, and my jaw was on the ground seeing Plant tour in 83 and the 2 FIRM tours. Awesome music and no doubt Jimmy Page is legend kinda like somebody in a band near and dear to this site

    WOW!

    I have that poster!

    It's somewhere around here...

Page only wore that outfit a few times on the "bad-vibes" '77 tour.
How much more "bad-vibey" can you get, dressing as a Nazi?

At the time, I didn't read to much into it, yet today...upon reflection: it is offensive to me, in a strange way.

In 1977, it was simply a "get-up", a costume if you will, and to my then-young mind, no more strange than a "Darth Vader" outfit.

Time and life experience have taught me otherwise...yes, he looks cool, yet what, if any, is the message?

Then again, maybe I'm reading too much into it.
Still... in 2005, it does bother me more than entertain me.

A buddy of mine has a theory that Zeppelin was the greatest band ever for the fact that all 4 guys were soloing at the same time. Each member's part of a song could be played w/o the others, and it would stand alone as a complete piece of music.

it's funny you mention that ...

... whenever i listen to zep i'm always struck exactly by that. maybe it's the mix, but it's the only band that firstly i've ever heard mixed so cleanly and separately. i don't know how to describe it but you can clearly hear each player individually, the sonic stuff isn't mushed together like in pretty much every other recording.

and yeah, now that i think about it more, they are playing really their own thing aren't they? the clean separated mixing they did on zep really lets you focus in any one of the players and as a result i never heard the song the same way twice.

anyone heard Robert's new song "Shining It All Around"? This is pretty kickass....probably his best solo stuff since "Big Log" or "In The Mood".

I saw Robert Sat night in Biloxi.

The man is simply amazing - still to this day! He played for 1 1/2 hrs with his band Strange Sensations. His voice was as perfect as always - I swear he gets better with age! He was joking during the set - drinking wine - just seemed to be having a great time. They changed up sound to the Zepp songs he did - he made them more like his solo work. The new songs he did were awesome! They sounded much better live than the clips I've heard so far. Much heavier than the last solo lp. More tribal sounding, even some techno thrown in. He made everything sound very current - like I said he is amazing!!!!! Here's the set:

No Quarter--Very different and stripped down version. Very cool, very funky - lots of drums..
    Heartbreaker
    Freedom Fries - New Song
Let the Four Winds Blow--New Song
    Black Dog--Lots of crowd participation
    Darkness,Darkness--Pretty much an album version
    Thats the Way--Excellent!!!!!!
    All The King's Horses--New Song
    If I Were a Carpenter
Shine It All Around--I had heard the single, but live it seemed to be much more layered and full. It was excellent.
    Babe I'm Gonna Leave You
    Tall Cool One
    Tin Pan Valley--New Song
When the Levee Breaks--Very,Very good version!!
    Encore:
The Enchanter--An excellent song from the new album
    Whole Lotta Love--Classic!!!!

Just as an FYI - Jude Law was in the front row!
