I merged the topic "Your favorite Queensr˙che album besides Operation Mindcrime?" into this thread.

Empire is my favorite Queensryche album by far. I love the production & almost the entire album is great, even the bonus song Last Time In Paris is really good.

Take Hold of the Flame is good. Some insane vocals from Tate. great guitar solo at 2:55

Studio version (as the great Tokyo 1984 version was posted on the last page)

    ++++

Sure it may be played out.... But I always liked Jet City Woman

"Empire" i actually enjoyed more than Mindcrime, song wise.

I thought "Empire" was them really running with all that momentum, and continuing the
    run of strong songwriting.
    They rose to it.

Was "Lucidity" on Operation or Empire?
    I'm remembering it as, Empire.

And the song "Empire," was fantastic.

Chorus is "Breaking the Silence", and also the verses are "Jet City Woman",,, coming out of the intro around :30 I expected him to sing "Every time I leave you say you won't be there, and you're always there".

Sounds good though. Cool to hear Tate's latest.

I just listened to The Warning. It's been a long time and i'd not noticed before but there's quite a few melodic ideas that ended up on Mindcrime, in better songs. Holy shit, Take Hold of the Flame is still a fucking mega song. Some of the others don't hold up so well.

Yeah, I liked Empire better as well. Songs were stronger, production was great...everything seemed as good as it could get.

I dig Mindcrime. Eyes of a Stranger is probably my favorite tune from them, but I thought Empire took it too 11.

No coincidence Empire was sort of considered DeGarmo's album.

Geoff Tate was sick last night. Only sang for an hour. He kicked ass as best he could which was excellent by most standards. Hung out with the rest of the guys till 3 am...

I still listen to this live version of Take Hold of the Flame all the time. I think this is one of the better live vocal performances I've ever heard. In the day, Tate was a vocal beast.

Edit - shit, realized I posted it a page ago.

It flies under the radar, but Best I Can has always been my favorite tune on Empire. Great great tune amongst a bunch of great tunes on that album.

like "Zero the Hero" from Sabbath (My God, that creepy intro & the awesome fade in).

But i remember them debuting this new band they loved, and they played "The Lady
    Wore Black" every show.
I remember the song really moved me, it just had this moody vibe, with lush intro's
and verses into a Heavy chorus.
Another great solo, on that song.

Then months later, they got the NEW album, a full length, and played "Take hold of
    the flame" every show.

At the time, i thought, this song has the same formula as "Lady wore black."
But, i loved both tunes immensely.

I'm not sure why, back then, i thought they were so similar.

When Rage came out, they played "Walk in the shadows" every show, which i liked,
but not as much as the other two.
Zero the Hero and the Whole Born Again album is awesome.i saw that tour with Ian Gillan. Going to Deep Purple tomorrow....
