    Screensavers: Good or Bad?

I've heard conflicting arguments. Some people say it's good to have a screensaver others say it's not.

Which is it? Does anyone know?

I know the only thing - after five years of not using screensaver my 'once-costed-$500' monitor is burned to hell so I have those annoying 'lines' all over my screen when I open text documents. So, next time I buy a monitor I'll have a screensaver no matter if it's good or bad.

Although today's monitors are no where near as bad as they used to be, they still burn in after a few years if they're constantly used. Use a screensaver.

I think the real danger is downloading screen savers from the 'Net. Just use one of the standard Windows ones and you should be okay. (The slide show one works really nice if you have a directory of pics you like!)

I haven't had a screensaver in a long time. I prefer to just have the screen go black.

I didn't think burn-in was much of a problem these days. Might depend on the kind of monitor you have though, we have LCD's, so I don't think it's so much an issue, but it might still be on a CRT.

Anyway, speaking of, this thread reminded me of a VH screensaver we made about 3 years ago. It's a frankenstriped globe that spins within the VH rings logo and slowely bounces around the screen. My other half is a genius programmer, so it's quite safe.

You better hope Edward Van Halen doesn't find out about this.

I've got my Mac G5 running pictures of VH tour.
The pics, about 500, are taken from the Reunion thread (RIP) and Red Rocker dot com.

My ultra leftwinger of a co-worker hates seeing all the bare chested pics of Ed so I've had it running since this summer. Haha.

Sure, just unzip the file, and put it in the \WINDOWS\system32 folder. Then you can access it using the regular windows properties dialogue box with all your other screensavers.

Whoops . Actually, not that it matters of course, but we came up with the logo design first afaic. A year or so after we made that image, it popped up on one of the potential tour shirt ideas shortly before the tour. So maybe I should give him a call.

Just curious, why would a left winger have a problem with seeing shirtless pics?

He sees all things as either left or right.
Because he's so far fuckin left just about everything is right of him
and therefore so too is all things Van Halen the band and it's fans.
He shudders everytime my screensaver is on and I'm around.
Ya know an attention whore or a young kid with ADD.
Need to comment on everything kind co-worker.

It's such a pleasure to have to sit next to him really it is

Huh. Sounds like an extremist to me. I'm pretty far left, but that just sounds silly. I'd probably want to annoy the guy too.
