I am actually quite impressed. All the crap we were hearing...#6 is a nice spot to be in for coming out of nowhere and doing almost no promo.

I had discussed this before we were hacked, but here we go again...

What happend to the tour being cancelled because of poor sales?
What happend to this tour not even showing up on the Top 25?
Where's all the doom and gloom that was predicted for the tour?

And I don't give a rats ass about the fact that the average attendance per night is figured per city and not per gig. That's a Pollstar thing and every artist uses the same equation, so it seems to be a non-issue to me.

I don't give a shit what "expectations" Clear Channel had for the tour, but these expectations of $100 million dollars means that they expected every show to sell out. If that's the case, then maybe the promoters should have checked with most of us here at the links that are quite aware of VH's fragmented fan base and that "rapid fire sellouts" were just a dream.

If it was a reunion tour with DLR, ticket sales would be higher without a doubt, there's more interest in a reunion (though most fans there wouldn't be fans of Classic Van Halen per se, but rather fans of 80's rock and the idea of reliving their youth.) with DLR and that line up would have brought in more money, selling out Stadiums, I don't think so. Lots of sellouts, yes, but not 4 night stands in arenas like in 1984.

And I don't give a shit how much money promoters lost on this tour. Nobody's sure of what their guarantee was and up 'til the advent of the Internet, stuff like that had no bearing on my enjoyment of the band or their show. If Azoff got 750K per show out of promoters, then the band hired the right guy for the job.....much better than RD.

Were tickets too high! Damn right....so's gas and my day care at 12K per year......shit costs a lot. Would the tour have done better with lower prices? I don't think so. I didn't know one person who flinched on the price, most bitched, but ended up ejoying themselves.

Insiders have commented that "no other promoter will touch VH for another major tour"

Sounds fine to me.....book the club shows...hell book the casinos.....I hate arenas anyway.
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

    Default Pure speculation

First of all, I am impressed by the results because the greatest hits package was ill conceived and the three new songs poorly executed. The show I saw in Pittsburgh was great and surpassed my expectations given recent band history. All 4 came to play and delivered.

I applaud the casual fans who have chosen not to support shows at astronomical ticket prices and refused to go to many of the hyped tours (Aerosmith, Halen, Sting, Collins). If you want top dollar than you had better put out top product and not serve up a nostalgia trip. Why would a casual Halen fan pay over 30 bucks? Me, I would pay 200, but Joe Schmoe?

I've been a fan from '78 and I do not think a Roth reunion would have outsold a Sammy. While it may matter a great deal to us MTV quit worrying about this after '96 and CNN or USA Today could really give a flying F#$%. In other words, the 3000 Redheads would skip and the 3000 Dave fans would attend. Those of us who remember the Roth years are not exactly getting any younger and most of the people my age who would be interested in a Roth concert would probably be more interested in Buffett. Sad but true.

I don't think being #6 is out of this world. VH should've been #1 with all the bitching during their hiatus and then anticipation when the tour was announced. It should've been a massive tour but it did'nt get the interest I thought it would've.

I saw them and loved them in '04 but it was not the bomb. It was worthy of #6, which is still pretty damned good, IMHO.

Have Van Halen ever topped the "Touring Chart" ever.

I think the "Balance" tour was Top 10....32 million or so.
