Yep, he was born and raised in Nashville and is currently touring in some capacity with Queen, as well as doing studio work back home. What a life!

Unrelated but kinda related, I can't wait for the 40th anniversary box set for Permanent Waves next year! Released January 1, 1980, what a way to start the decade.

I may or may not be drunk at the moment. No wait, I'm definitely drunk, but still......

Got R30 from NetFlix - great show. Just wish I had stopped water consumption sooner - damn those “gallon a day” people! But at least unlike a real show, the band waited for me while I answered nature’s call about horses. Wondering where I saw the beginning before, because I remember the Jerry Stiller bit.

The R30 concert is on Netflix? Interesting. Is it the complete 3 hour show that's on bluray or is it the original 2 hour DVD release? Or even worse the 1 hour version shown on TV?

Not sure if the BluRay is available as I’m on the DVD plan, but the DVD was two hours

Oh I see, yeah about a quarter of the show was cut from the original DVD release but restored on the bluray release 5 years later. It's got 8 additional songs, about 50 minutes. The Trees, Bravado, YYZ, Secret Touch, Red Sector A, One Little Victory, Bytor and the Snowdog, and La Villa Strangiato.

The 50 best rock albums of the 2010s

By Classic Rock (Classic Rock) 2019-12-18T17:15:59Z

As the 2010s reach their end, we present the 50 best rock albums the decade had to offer, as voted for by you guys

    1. Rush - Clockwork Angels (2012)

So, we followed a character on a quest through an antique sci-fi world teeming with pirates, anarchists, explorers and carnival dwellers. It was a heady theme, and Rush cranked up their nonpareil power trio smarts to set it to some of their toughest music.

Caravan set a swaggering, funky tone. ‘I can’t stop thinking big,’ sang Geddy Lee, establishing the character and the world ‘lit only by fire’. Alex Lifeson’s swathes of crunchy tone and a blues-drenched solo backed this up. Hewn from the type of riff Muse would kill for, BU2B set the story on a cosmological scale, its hard, hyperactive groove leading to the title track, which floated in on exotic tones and shimmering clean guitars before bursting into life.

It was a thoroughly modern record but, as ever, Peart’s ear for the mythic added Xanadu-like grandeur to the music. Seven Cities Of Gold was inspired by tales of Spanish conquistadors, and it was a monolithic, shifting rocker that heralded the character’s entry into the belly of the beast, El Dorado. Blessed with beautiful clean lines and a refrain that ‘Sometimes you have to be wary of the miracle too good to be true’, The Wreckers was accessible, with a light, major-key simplicity (not bad for a song inspired by pirates who deliberately ran ships aground).

Marvel at Clockwork Angels for one or all of its many levels: its literary depth and steampunk cool; its creators’ unity of purpose and preternatural musical sense; its lip-curling rock grooves and girthy production.

In the blue sky of their creative Indian summer, and with a cultural tailwind behind them, Rush channelled the impulse that made them so special all along on a modern progressive album which sat right up there in their canon.

The 20 best guitar albums of the decade

    By Jonathan Horsley 2019-12-19T12:02:54Z

From blues to metal, prog to shred, here's what you voted your favorite records of 2010 to 2019

    17. Rush - Clockwork Angels

    Guitarist: Alex Lifeson

The Canadian prog trailblazers’ final studio album before disbanding presents a smorgasbord of everything that made them great in the first place. Their latter period saw them in full command of light and shade, of the dynamics between hard-driven rock and the ethereal.

Take Caravan, for example, Lifeson’s guitar skulks around the low registers with Geddy Lee’s bass before resolving itself in a chorus whose gentle arrangements never attenuates the feeling of anxiety Lee is singing about.

Rush were alway the most humanistic of all the prog bands, aided and abetted by Lifeson’s note choices and ear for feel, and never more so than here, signing off on a formidable discography with typical poignancy on The Garden.

I hate rush but he was a great drummer Iíve been told. Sucks that the rush fans and family has lost someone so young. 67 is the new 40.

    And brain cancer? Royally sucks.

    Wow. Who saw that coming?

    Only 67.

Maybe we can lay off slamming Dave for his Vegas stint for a day or two because this ought to put what he's doing in perspective.

    RIP Mr. Peart.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.
