I think that this tour has been kinda weird attendance wise. People post that the Fresno date was half filled, yet the Gorge looked frickin' packed! I was at the first show of the tour and it was definitely packed too. I wonder what the deal is with the occasional dud show attendance wise? No advertising?

VCooper and VicVega compiled official attendance in some different threads. I figured I would take them and put them in this thread. Maybe this can become the official attendance thread. Not all shows listed, only ones with official figures from Amusement Business or Metal Sludge.

    1. Detroit 14,852
    2. East Troy 13,163
    3. St. Louis 12,426
    4. Chicago 12,164
    5. Columbus 8,607
    6. Cleveland 7,896
    7. Dallas 7,251
    8. Universal 6,089 sellout
    9. Universal 6,089 sellout
    10 Fresno 3,822

Cincy and Indy newspaper accounts listed attendance for those shows at around 5,000 each.

My viewpoint is - this tour has been a minor disappointment. The ticket sales have not been what was anticipated. I know that many of these shows were "wallpapered" at the last minute, meaning that many free tickets were given away to fill the venue (and make up some revenue in concessions). I don't blame the whole thing on lack of interest, although as a longtime concert- goer, I have had to face the fact that for every one of US (30 & 40 somethings still interested in music) there are ten other folks from our generations who just don't care anymore. Second, Clear Channel has doen a HORRIBLE job promoting this show - they apply a cookie-cutter, generic approach to everything (the radio promos are uninspired)and the result is lukewarm awareness of the tour. Finally (also mostly Clear Channel's fault), the concert experience is becoming WAY too expensive for most people - even for the aforementioned generation(s) who HAVE substantially more disposable income than 20-year-olds. After tickets, ticketbastard convenience charges, parking, $35 T-shirts, $8.00 beers and $5.00 hotdogs, people are just staying away. The business model for these shows is becoming more dependent on corporate sponsorships, inflated concessions (ala major league sports)and of course, blocking/selling the best seats in the house to the brokers. My belief is that Clear Channel has either found a way to make shows profitable with half-full venues or that the concert biz is headed down the toilet. Hopefully the laws of supply and demand will be on OUR side and things will chnage for the better. As for me - the concert experience is always much more fun when the house is FULL!

I'm seeing a lot of insight on this thread why ticket sales may be down...........

There's only one reason why sales may be down........

It's Sammy Hagar and DLR...........in the year 2002, who really gives a fuck....except for folks like ourselves who are just a bunch of "VH/DLR/Sammy Nerds"

You can promote all you want........but if the "product" isn't something that the "market" wants or needs............then the outcome is pretty clear.
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

I don't know where they are getting that figure for Dallas. The seats were overe 95% full and the lawn was at least half full. Then place holds 20k. No way that that seems accurate.

Those numbers represent paid concert tickets, they don't include promotional (free) tickets.

The Gorge was maybe half full, but that's still 11 to 12 thousand people. When the upper grass is packed, it peaks out at around 26 thousand people.
The KISS show a coupla years back was sold out. I wished this one was, but it still kicked ass!
If ever a chance, see a show at The Gorge.

    Dog,
Your numbers are a bit off for the Dallas show. The Vodkaplex (Smirnoff Starplex) sold about 17,251. The place holds over 20K and the reports were just under 18K. Point well taken though. Some places just don't promote the event very well. Other areas just don't rock anymore. Clearchannel is a big part of the problem, but in the Dallas area we had another station doing the promotion. Hell even one of the sports talk stations were promoting it.

If it will rock we will roll.

I know in Phoenix they had all the seats full that hold appx. 8,000, and there was at last another 4-5,000 out on the lawn. So I'd guess around 13,000 for the PHX show!
