Seems to me from all of Sam's interviews he is taking this tour personal. Dave is taking his party all the time have fun attitude while Sam is more or less, "I'm gonna blow him off the stage, he's aint gonna want to follow me, it's a big competition ect." I think in his mind this is where he is going to show all the DLR era and anti Sam fans that he was the better man for the VH job. I just sense a different attitude among the two. Dave as laid back as always and Sammy a little nervous almost. Maybe not nervous, but he may have a little chip on his shoulder he wants to fix. This post is not meant to a debate over who's better. Just an observation. Any thoughts?

I agree, that's how it is coming across. But you know Dave is getting hyped up too - he's just saving it for the stage.

After his last tour, DLR needn't be worried about getting blown away. I think in the back of Sam's mind, he knows he better step it up outside the talk. I know Dave will. I love the 2 of em. This will be cool to see!!!

I prefer Dave era, but I am sure Sam is gonna put on a hell of a show as well. Sounds like from what I heard Dave is taking his agreement to put all nonsensical things that have been said behind him and Sam is still drudging them up. He keeps stirring the pot by talking about the things that have been said as well as fueling a fire between Dave and Mona. Unfortunately, anything Dave says at this point, he will be called the a$$hole. No win situation...

LET THE MUSIC DO THE TALKING!!!

oh and p.s. Dave lay off the Jacking off with the JD bottle. Even I, the biggest fan of yours, thinks this is silly. JUST ROCK!

Lotsa other Linkers have broached the possibility that Sammy's just talkin' a little shit to drum up interest in the tour. I believe that to be the case.

Is Dave gonna fire back the way we all know he's capable of? Or is he just gonna let his show do the talkin'? Should be interesting to see...

As I have said in other threads, if Dave was at 100% for last year's show, he will be at at least 150% competing with Sammy. If that drives Sammy, to a better and hopefully cheeseless set, more power to him.

Since I'm paying 6 times more to see Dave than I did last year, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a good opening act. Sammy was capable of that before 1986, so why not again?

Yeah, no doubt - but there's always going to be an edge there. The tour (IMO) is about three things:

    1. Money
    2. Sticking it to the brothers
    3. Van Halen vs Van Hagar

You can argue all you want that it's Dave/Sammy selling the tickets but you only have to look at those guys recent ticket sales against this tour to see otherwise. The pull is the Van Halen rivalry - and you know neither of those guys will shed a tear if the reviews are "Dave rocks Cleveland....and oh yeah Hagar played too" or vice versa.

They're in it together for 1. and 2. but 3. isn't going away.

    Hopefully both.....

Sammy always seems to be a pretty insecure guy. He has said so himself, the more attention the more nervous he gets. He said he gets very nervous when the camera's are rolling. I'm sure he has had to read all the crap for years from cavemen that VH was only VH with Dave and he is ready to show everyone that he is the harder worker.

I also agree that it is a lot of hype to get radio listeners interested in seeing the fight.... errr concert.

Actually, Dave actually said at the press conference that "It's gonna be a competition" So they both say the same, not just Sam

Sammy has a distinct edge here, if I were an oddsmaker, I'd expect money to come in on Sam.

His voice is better, he can play guitar and he has all of his hair.

However, his song selection (from recent setlists) sucks. He plays very few VH songs (DLR is making this a Van Halen-a-thon) and those he has selected blow (Dreams, Right Now, Top of the World, etc.). Sam needs to beef up his VH catalog with some more substantial tunes and more VH tunes altogether. Sam should play AT LEAST the following if he wants to compete:

    Finish What Ya Started
    Summer Nights
    Best of Both Worlds
    Humans Being
    Crossing Over
    Good Enough
    Black & Blue
    APOLITICAL BLUES
(Don't Tell Me) What Love Can Do
    WCTBL
    Seventh Seal

Then if he want to play Dreams or Top of the World or When Its Love, it won't seem so cheesy.

If he sticks with his current setlist he has NO CHANCE against DLR even if DLR loses his voice during the 1st song and whispers the rest of the show. DLR's setlist is going to be KILLER, Sam's got to counter.

This is not about vocal quality at all.

There isn't a single song in Sammy's set that can measure up to Dave's.

What Van Hagar song is better than Unchained or Hot For Teacher? None.

So whether Dave vs Sammy is a decent matchup, Van Halen to Van Hagar is no match and Sammy knows it and is creating the sh*t storm to divert attention away from the material. Any singer would also pee in his pants if he/she had to perform on the same stage with Dave doing classic VH. Remeber Dave wins most Best Frontman polls for a reason. He is that good. I have yet to see Sammy even included in any frontman polls. No offense to Sammy, I liked some of his Van Hagar work, but I LOVE Van Halen!
