Just read VH1's review of the show. The reviewer must be a Hagar fan 'cause he/she claimed Hagar was the winner. I wanted to know what you folks thought.

As far as originality, i'd have to go with Sam. However, Daves exact copy of an old school Van Halen show along with being the headliner gave him the edge with the fans.
I think the winner will change each night.

Right on, TWONABOMBER!! WE WIN!!
THE FANS WIN - PERIOD!!!

We could go back and forth all damn day on this topic after each show - for what reason?!?
They both played their asses off and I think they will continue to do so at each stop. They might tweak their shows along the way, but this is for the fans and they both know it and are doing it for us!!

We all have our favorite VH - either with Sammy or Dave. I prefer the Dave stuff, but I still like Sammy and he put on a great performance!

It's all about VH - that's why we're all here, ain't it?!!

WE WIN, BIGTIME!!

twonabomber is right, the fans are the winners in this. At least the fans of both eras.

But I still say Dave crushed Sam in Cleveland. And I think he will every night. Dave has a better setlist, and a better band. Sam could close the gap, if he played better songs. But, he will never match Dave "song for song".

I think it's a tie, or the fans are the real winner. I prefer the Hagar era compared to the Roth era, but then again Roth impressed me in the first show:

- he didn't bullshit much. I always thought his one liners are lame (I know I know people like it, I may be a minority here). He just went from song to song to song, bam bam bam, so cool!
- ATOMIC PUNK, always wanted to hear this song live.
- his guitarist is shit hot.
- ATOMIC PUNK. oh I mentioned this already.
- he actually sounded pretty good, we all know he can't sing as well as Sammy but he held his own in Cleveland.

Note to Dave: Please play at least 1 more song from your solo stuff. A Lil Ain't Enough or Just Like Paradise. They are great songs. Be proud of your solo career.

Sammy did well too, actually better than I expected because I thought he was gonna do only 6 VH songs - Sam, YOU CAN'T DO THAT. NOT IN THIS TOUR. Your VH songs are great. It's a good thing that he started with Red instead of Shaka Doobie like he said in Howard Stern. His stage show is cool too, and I actually like his bullshit (although a bit much at times - he can squeeze one more song if he cuts the bullshit out).

Note to Sammy: Close your show with Dreams. That's the best song you've ever written.

yup. me too...Dave seems to want it more this time around, he's not "phoning it in," as they say.
