Why are good drummers so hard to find and when you do find them so fickle? Sorry. Just venting frustration on a public board.

My band has had our current drummer since November and I never thought we'd have somebody as good as this guy. He works at Guitar Center and that's how met him. This guy nitpicks every detail about his drums, changes his drumheads once every 2 weeks, polishes his cymbals once a week, loves to play and learns 6-7 minute song arrangements in no time. Also, he's not a dumb idiot like the drummer stereotype would lead you to believe. Good drummers with good attitudes are out there man. I used to have my doubts too.

Hoobastank6, hang on to that guy AS LONG AS YOU CAN. I've got a couple of candidates here where I live and one guy about 30 minutes away and I can only hope that one of them has the right combination of personallity and ability.

We aren't that hard to find. Trennasol found me on here and we've been playing now for like 6 months.

The dude that changes his heads every two weeks that is a LITTLE too much for me price wise anyway. He must get mad discounts from guitar center.

Heads need to be replaced IMO every 3-4 months as needed (dependent on use) now if he is gigging for 3 hours EVERY night that's different.

I would rather look for a drummer than a singer any day of the week! Drummers can be a pain in the ass.

The trick is to find one that dosent:
1. Suck

2. Play fills every 3 seconds

3. Have an addiction to cymbals

4. Dosen't sleep (can't over sleep if you don't sleep at all)

5. Change their part every time you play a song

6. Think double kick is the answer to fucking everything!

7. Use any drugs (not even NyQuil is acceptable. My last drummer was great, up until he got ahold of some bad heroin and paralized the left side of his body.

8. Owns his own kit (long story)

9. Dosen't talk

10. Dosen't write lyrics

In other words, I would suggest Alesis for your drummbing needs.

Just a little fun all you drummers, don't hate me. Seriously though, they think the same thing about guitar players. Just keep looking because when you find someone who works out, it's awsome. You never knew how rad your music can sound until you get a ninja to give it a heartbeat.

I'd more consider it a even trade, you found a decent drummer I found a off the wall godlike guitar player, a few months later adding chip and ken we have the monster that is our band

VHLINKS helped form a band

One other thing I want to add.

A "good" drummer almost ALWAYS says and I quote " I am decent or I am ok" they USUALLY wont EVER tell you they are God's gift to a kit. Those that do usually (90% of the time) suck some HARD ass

Q: What do you do if you see a drummer covered in blood running around the back yard?

A: You try to keep from laughing and shoot him again.

Well let me post my expierences with guitar players.

Up until recently (playing w/trennasol) I have NEVER played with a good/decent guitarist.

Why?

They could all play the really cool intro to a song and then stop
-OR-
They were really good at acting looking cool but not being able to play their way out of a wet paper bag
-OR-
They played so LOUD (badly) that your ears bleed
-OR-
They had MAJOR mommy/daddy "issues"
-OR-
In this special case wind up costing ME a 3000.00 TAMA drum set because they can't hold up their end of a legal agreement and sic their lawsuit happy parents on you after renigging on the contract they signed with me(L O N G story)

BACK ON TOPIC

Good decent guitarist's (IMO) embody the following:

Cool, mellow, HUMBLE, but will blow your fooking socks off when they play, willing to learn all sorts of stuff and when they do it sound spot on accurate.

That is what I HAD been searching for in a guitar player and low and behold found it on the links.

I can't be the only guitar player that actually LIKES drummers can I? To me,
it's all about the guitar and drums. If those two elements lock in, it's on!
To be honest a killer drum beat amps me up as much if not more so that a cool guitar riff.

Thanks for the super kind words Jon. Although, I am concerned that years of smashing cymbals may have damaged your ears a little.

I bought a Boss drum machine a few years ago when I as in between bands mostly for at home studio projects. The drummer (his name is Clay) in my band I've been playing with for about 12 years now. One of the big jokes we always have is everytime he threatens to quit, I tell him, "go ahead, dude! I have the Clay II model! And it does'nt smoke my cigerettes or drink my beer, and it always holds the time perfect!"

Sorry man, but what does that mean????

I think it's hard to find a good singer, the singer is either a great singer, with no personality, or a crap singer with a great personality.

I'm a guitarist, and l guess l was lucky, when l was putting my band together l happened to met the drummer in my band through a friend. Although one of the drummers l used to jam with used to break into a 5 minute solo whenever he felt like it, and l'm talking about at gigs.

The drummer in my band always says l'm the strangest guitarist that he's known, strange meaning, l'm always in the mix of the other instruments, l'm not overpowering, unless the song calls for it.

Riddick.
