    Hey fellas,

I've played snare in band back 13-15 years ago - and I'm interested in getting into playing drums again. What should I buy? Should I just get something really basic at first? Something used? How should I get started? Where can I play? My house is not an option, because there's no room and I would really piss the neighbors off. And I don't want to use muff pads either. Thanks for the suggestions.

    peace out.

    Hi youbsittinpretty...
Well you have to buy something really basic at first, is the best option, but depends on your budget.
If you have some money i'd suggest you to buy a drum + triggers + control unit.
Ok it's like having an electronic drum, but:
you can have ANY sound you want
you can practice with headphones (muffing your drum) and this would solve the problem with your neighbors...

If you don't want to spend too much money try a used electronic drum (one of thos with pads), but it's not like the real thing.. and nobody will want to play live with you LOL

The best way to start playing is to have a friend who plays drums and have a place where you can practice. He could teach you the basics and everything will be easier.(and less expensive..)
I think this is the best option..
Or you could simply ask a friend that hasn't your neighbors problems if you can use his garage.. Then convince him to buy a guitar, and half of your band is done!!

I found a Yamaha DTX electric kit used for $1000. I know sound like alot, but that thing is hours and hours of entertainment.

I've also seen many "pad" kits for resonable. Try www.lonestarpercussion.com Good prices, great service.

Talk to your neighboors, they may be more willing to compromise than you think.

Always try to find something used first. Your paper's classified, drum shops, online, hell even e-bay. There is always somthing out there if you just look for it. Set a price and search. Haggle if you have too.

    Good Luck

YBSP, whatever you decide to buy, before you can become a drummer I'm afraid you'll need a lobotomy...lol

    Funny tribb-

I was in the drum shop the other day and saw this kit called a Peal "Traveler" It's a simple five piece set up, but the heads are made of a mesh fabric that is completly silent. Great alternative for beginners. It comes with a hi-hat pad and a ride pad.
