I was just thinking, in the 1980's it seemed like everyone did coke. I knew dozens of people in my circles of friends who snorted regularly. It was common at the clubs and at parties.

Today I can't name one person who does it. Not one. So my question is where is all that cocaine that is being smuggled into this country going? Who is using coke these days?

All the trash you see on COPS.
CHICAGO WHITE SOX - 2005 WORLD CHAMPIONS

The Chicago White Sox (1901-present) - The Original SOX - Proof

The Boston Americans (1901)
The Boston Somersets (1902)
The Boston Pilgrims (1903-1906)
The Boston Red Sox (1907-present) - Proof

The Pilgrims/Americans/Somersets whatever you want to call them, have NEVER displayed "SOX" anywhere on their caps, jerseys, or merchandise, therefore they shouldn't be referred to as such. However, the White Sox have used "SOX" since 1912.

The SOX are in Chicago...we just allow the Pilgrims/Americans/Somersets to use the name.

Dozens of your friends and acquaintances did blow regularly? Good Lord, who did you hang around with? Drug dealers? I knew a few people back in my day who snorted, but personally (at least from what I saw) I think coke consumption was a little overhyped in the '80s.

Scott,

I was a rock guitarist in a working band and later a studio monkey. I grew up on the Monterey Peninsula in California. This area rivals Beverley Hills with it's wealthy population. My friends drove new BMW's Volkswagon GTI's and Audi Quatro's. The first time I saw somebody use coke was in my junior year of highschool. My school made 60 Minutes because it had the highest rate of drug use per student in the US.(80%)

The big house parties I played at always had a room closed off where there was a mirror on the bed and a couple of 8Balls poured out and all the hot girls bent over it, snorting like pigs. The pizza parlor that my band hung out in after rehersal was a front from an east coast drug cartel, when the Sherriff finally raided the place they captured almost 100lbs of the stuff and estimated that they'd moved a half of a ton through the location in two years.

My friends were fellow musicians who had rich parents and a big trust fund, hair-dressers, waitresses and bartenders. The worst abusers though were my friends in the Realestate and Banking Industry. Most of them used cocain semi-regualarly.

Cocaine was the main reason I hang up my studio career. Sessions up in San Jose and Cotati would run well into the early morning and I would be tired from also working at my day job and then the 100 mile drive. The other musicians would vanish into the restroom and do a line and keep on chuggin' away. I saw bad ju ju if I started usung that stuff so I walked away. I knew I'd like it. I knew I'd LOVE it.

I wanted a future.

A friend of mine, who today owns a diner and has a great wife, he alomost ruined his life with the stuff. He'd gone to LA in the mid-80's with two friends who'd formed a band. He was a straight shooter before he left. The band did okay and got looked at by the labels but Mike eventually quit and came back north. I asked him about LA and told him why I'd quit music and he told me that I was lucky that I'd stayed out of So.Cal. He told me the pressures were overwhelming. He told me that after one show some guys from a label invited them to this big party in the Hollywood Hills. He told me that when they got there it was like a movie with all these beutiful women and these big time movie stars and rock stars. That was the night he got hooked on blow. I won't name names but this is the question that he asked me that he'd really expirienced:

You may be the most anti-drug guy in the world
but what do you do when you're at the hottest
party with the "IN-Crowd" and hot women and you
are having a good time. Then the lead singer of
your all-time favorite band, a guy you idolize
and the guy who embodies "Cool" hands you a
a rolled up C-note and points to the multiple
lines on the coffe table and pats you on the
back and tells you "welcome to the party!"
How do you say no?

Seeing this thread from a few years ago made me think it might be a good idea to bump it in regards to the How They Make Cocaine thread.

My guess is that a lot of what comes into the country gets turned into crack.

A high school buddy of mine got strung out on that after we had lost touch, and from what he said a lot of ppl I sorta knew did. These are pretty ordinary lower-middle-class to middle-class kids.

Thank God he's ok. At the point I heard from him I would have been equally unsuprised to hear he was dead or doing serious time.

Axx. I understand that pressure but I can't say it's enough pressure to have to go there.

I know cuz I modeled in Europe for three years and there were two types of modeling groups. first the PR group (free drugs) and the rat race group (free taxi ride to the bar)

guess where all the big name photographers partied. but ya know after all this time those fellow models never got any further along than the straight bunch.

Seperately, I see my friends who did blow in high school nowadays and yeah they are doing alright but sometimes they dissapear during get togethers and I know what's going on. when they are gone and out there doing what they gotta do I watch their children and then thank god I never got involved with that shit. it's at those times that clairvoyance is paramount. I can't imagine being a slave to something that would neglect the well being of my son or daughter. drugs suck.
If eddie were down and out on a sidewalk playing guitar I'd be next to him with a bottle and a blanky braving the cold. I would be sucking my thumb happily making chupa chupa noises in sync with the petroglyphic sounds that came from the mighty finger tips of Edward Van Halen.

During the dot-com boom, alot of stock brokers were using.
I know a broker who was doing his best Hoover impersonation then.

And I have noticed alot of the stalls at bars in Houston have had 'Double Occupancy' the last few years. They seem to have sinus issues while in there too.

I have worn a pair of snowshoes from time to time in the past.
Not to 80's rockstar levels, but on very special occasions.
