You know we're really getting bored around here when you see a thread devoted to (gulp) Duran Duran.

Okay, how about this? If you could meet and have dinner with any famous person, living or dead, who would it be?

With all due respect to his Edwardness, I gotta go with Paul McCartney. I mean, the guy was a friggin' Beatle! He was a part of something that still inspires generations of musicians, and will for many years to come. Imagine the stories he could tell. Plus, he seems like a pretty cool guy to chat with. Ed finishes a close second, but Paul gets my vote.

I was fortunate enough to meet three of my biggest idols. ( Eddie Van Halen, Debbie Harry, and former New York Yankee, Bucky Dent.) It was also a thrill to meet Les Paul and see him play.

If I had the opportunity to meet anyone living or dead, here is 10 people I would choose:

JESUS CHRIST
Paul Molitor
President John F. Kennedy
Mayor Rudy Giuliani
Natalie Wood
Shania Twain
John Denver
John Fogerty
Derek Jeter
Steve Yzerman

I've asked myself this question many times, and it's always hard to narrow it down to one. Ed is certainly up there, but I think I would have to go with Ray Bourque. I am a huge sports fan and although there may have been bigger sports figures from Boston, I grew up rooting for the Bruins in the late 80's up until the present and nobody bled the black and gold more than Ray Bourque.

I'd have to second the Jesus Christ nomination and also put on the list Edward of course, Clyde Drexler, Payne Stewart and Bobby Jones.

I can't really decide on one but I have a list:

Eddie Van Halen
Steve Young
Michael J. Fox
Sammy Hagar
Michael Anthony
Jerry Rice
Franklin D. Roosevelt

I've met Stevie a couple of times, he's a really cool guy. A real class act.

I would love to meet Ed & just bullshit with him for a couple of minutes, well ok maybe an hour or so.

This reminds me of a funny story. Back during the LRHRN tour, My mom had to fly out to Chicago for 3 days from Detroit once a week for about 4 months for her job. So for those 4 months I was constantly going to the airport to drop off/pick up my Mom. Well one night I was there with an ex-girlfriend of mine (girlfriend at the time) picking up my Mom. We got there a little early, checked the arrival time for the flight & went back outside to have a smoke. My ex just happened to be wearing a VH t-shirt & VH was playing the next night at the Palace of Auburn Hills. It didn’t even cross our minds that VH might be there (airport). I always thought VH flew into the airport in Downtown Detroit (City Airport) which is a lot smaller than Metro Airport which is the main airport here. As we were outside smoking we heard 2 older airport employees mention VH but we couldn’t decipher what they were saying. We just kinda looked at each other (the ex & I) put out our smokes & hurried the hell in there. As we were walking towards the baggage claim this airport employee stopped us. Asked us if we were here to see VH, ‘cause he noticed my ex’s t-shirt. I told him no I was just here to pick up my Mom, told ‘em all the flight info & then asked him “Why? Are they here?” He said “No, you just missed them by 10 min.” I was so bummed. This airport dude whipped out a handful of picks from his pocket & said that the guys were really cool & approachable. He had Ed’s picks & Mike’s picks. This cat let me take a few of ‘em. There were a few guys (roadies) there grabbing some equipment from the baggage claim, not sure if it was VH’s equipment or Vince Neil’s. I didn’t care, I was too pissed that I missed VH.

Anyways, that’s the closest I’ve ever came to meeting someone in VH

Dammit!

Oh well, It’s all good!

Related story: I actually got to meet Payne Stewart 2 summers ago. He's from the Springfield, MO. area and came back to visit his mom about 3 weeks after the U.S. Open victory. He stopped by a local municipal course (which incidentally is named after Payne and his father Bill) and put on a hitting demonstration. There's maybe about 200 hundred people there and he walks out with the US Open trophy, sets it down about 10 feet away from me and starts swinging and answering questions from the crowd. I was in absolute awe of this guy--his swing was so natural and free-flowing, it was almost a crime how far he could hit it. He had some great stories, all with that no-holds-barred Payne Stewart viewpoint and demented sense of humor. He was so friendly and easygoing, signing tons of autographs and letting local folks hold one of the most prized trophies in golf. It's a day I'll never forget.

Three months later he was gone.

After he got through hitting, I scoured the driving range and picked up a handfull of balls he hit (brand new Titleist Tour Balata 100's). I still have them to this day.

There'll never be another one like Payne.
