Yesterday the Mayor of Boston Thomas Menino held a rally for the fans to pay tribute to Bourque for finnaly achieving a goal that he had NO chance of achieving if he stayed in Boston.

Many people thought that it wouldn't be right because they believe its Colorado's victory not Boston's.

But Ray lives here and will continue to live here when he retires.

Another note of interest here, The Bruin's management told players that they shouldn't attend the event, even those that played with Ray for many years.
That was very stupid of them.

If Bruuin's owner Jeremy Jacobs and Harry Sinden would just pay the money to get better players here, then maybe we could have a Bruins victory celebration at City Hall too.

Time for Harry to retire and move away, and Jacobs to sell the damn team to someone that wants to win and not in it only to make money. Someone like Patriots owner Robert Kraft.

I see nothing wrong with honouring a local hero. Sounds pretty petty on the Bruins part.

It was stupid for 2 reasons...

1. It reminds the NHL, particularly Boston fans, of how long it has been since they actually won the Cup.

2. It tells other free agents, no matter how good you are, you'll have to win the Cup with a diferent team.

I'd wash my hands of this too if I was working for Bruins management.

I think its great that the city and the fans held a little party for him, I heard there were 15,000 people there!!
(Way to go Boston)

If I owned the Bruins I wouldnt want my players there either.

Ray is a class act and I for one am glad to see he was able to hoist the cup.

And thats about what its worth.

I think it is bittersweet. I think it is sweet that a city would observe such loyalty and adoration to a man that was so loyal to that town . . .even many miles away. I commend it!

I think it is bitter or bad for Boston because they have become so use to losing in all professional arenas, that they now have to resort to celebrations through anyone who has inadvertenly been connected with Boston in the past, but is no longer with them today.

What next? If the Pacers ever win the NBA championship, I hope Celtic fans do not have a rally for Larry Bird.

I think it might be good for players, especially ones not used to winning, to attend an event like this to give them a first hand look at what the payoff is for all the hard work. What better way to motivate a young player (or an under achiever) than to have them stand there in person and see what the ultimate prize is, and to see how a winner carries himself.

They would've if they won when he was coaching them!

Chicago has a similar problem where many people still like to relive their Super Bowl XX victory--15 years ago!!

I think it's fantastic. This wasn't cheap sentiment on either end. Ray loves Boston, and vice versa.

It was a really nice story. And a nice ending, if Ray chooses it to be.
