    Cheech & Chong Get Blunt
    Friday, January 17, 2003 12:46 CST

Variety reports that Rae Dawn Chong is determined that her father, Tommy Chong, and his longtime comic partner Cheech Marin reunite in a new movie franchise.

She has scripted Cheech and Chong Get Blunt, and she and sister Robbi have gotten a commitment from the famed stoners to topline. She's now shopping for distribution.

The premise finds the duo serving community service as anti-drug preachers in a boy's home. "It's not a big budget, and both guys are sharper than ever, because they've both become health and workout nuts," said Chong.

VINCE NEIL Takes A Ride On The Wild Side - Jan. 17, 2003

The following article was posted Tuesday (Jan. 14) on AVN.com:

LAS VEGAS - MÖTLEY CRÜE vocalist Vince Neil is taking his surreal life one step further. The famed rock frontman and current co-star of WB reality show "The Surreal Life" was out in Las Vegas last week for the AVN Adult Expo and to film his first official porn video. [Neil was the unwilling star of a previous porno movie when I.E.G. released a home video of the rocker and porn star Janine Lindemulder having sex on vacation in Hawaii.]

"We're out here shooting the 'Vince Neil Strippers Ball'," Bill Fisher of Fisher Films told AVN.com. Fisher recently produced a 'Strippers' Ball' for Dennis Rodman that aired on Pay-Per-View and Playboy TV before being released on home video and DVD. He has a Jenna Jameson in the can as well.

"Rock n' roll and adult entertainment go hand in hand. The 'Strippers Ball' is a series of videos. Obviously strippers work, they work all week, and we love them for what they do, but they don't get a night of their own. So the 'Strippers' Ball' is the one night for all the strippers to go and have fun and enjoy themselves and see a rock n' roll legend."

"And you get $25,000 and a Jaguar for the first prize," chimed in Vince enthusiastically.

Fisher continued: "Vince's name, the song 'Girls, Girls, Girls' and his image, the whole rock n' roll image that Vince built in the '80s is now turned into the major mainstream epic and we're just showing what's going on with the strippers and all the things that rock n' roll is all about. They say 'sex, drugs and rock n' roll,' well now in 2003 it's just..."

    "...Sex, sex, sex," finishes Vince.

So what with the premier of his TV show at the top of the ratings, a MÖTLEY CRÜE reunion in the works for 2004, an opening slot at the AVN Awards, and a porn movie in the works, it sure seems Vince has his basket full these days. "That's right man," grinned the rocker, "it's all one big fuckin' basket."

TV Star: THE OSBOURNES' AMA Hosting Stint Was Insult To My Intelligence - Jan. 17, 2003

The following item appeared in yesterday's edition of Cleveland's The Plain Dealer:

"Everybody Loves Raymond" star Patricia Heaton took a stand Monday night at the 30th annual American Music Awards. The Bay Village native stood up and walked out of the Shrine Auditorium, disgusted by what she described as "an onslaught of lewd jokes and off-color remarks."

A two-time Emmy winner for her portrayal of Debra Barone on "Everybody Loves Raymond", Heaton was at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles to introduce a prerecorded retrospective of executive producer Dick Clark's annual music bash. But the sitcom star grew increasingly upset with the raw and raunchy comments made by presenters, performers and the hosts for the evening, the Osbournes.

"I'm no prude, but this was such a vulgar and disgusting show," Heaton said yesterday morning after seeing her four sons off to school and before leaving for the Burbank studio where "Everybody Loves Raymond" is taped.

Known for her candor in a town where stars routinely are warned to modify and suppress opinions, Heaton rarely shies away from speaking her mind, even when her views don't conform with the Hollywood company line.

"I arrived a little late and was seated in the audience," Heaton said. "I was going to present what's called a video package - a look at 30 years of the American Music Awards. Well, what was passing for humor basically ranged from stupid to vulgar, and I just thought, 'I'm not going to be part of this.' So I walked out and said, 'Get me my car. I'm leaving.' "

A prerecorded audio clip introduced the retrospective after Heaton bolted the Shrine Auditorium.

She was not alone in noticing the harder edge to this year's American Music Awards. Show-business industry publications and reporters covering the event noted that the Osbournes and other performers kept the ABC network censors working overtime.

Print advertisements for the live awards event showed a roaring Ozzy Osbourne saying, "I'll be bleeped!" He was - often.

"The entire evening became about bleeping," said Heaton, the sister of Plain Dealer reporter Michael Heaton and the daughter of retired Plain Dealer columnist Chuck Heaton. "It was as if they were trying to become more like the MTV awards. But it's one thing if this kind of stuff is on MTV at 10 at night. It's quite another if it's on ABC at 8 o'clock. I don't know what Dick Clark was thinking."

Low points for Heaton included one performer's graphic references to three-way sex and Sharon Osbourne's joke about what she called Mariah Carey's "fake" endowments.

"I really didn't know what I was getting into," Heaton said. "I mean, there was Ryan Seacrest pulling open his co-presenter's shirt, then noticing there was a 12-year-old girl in the front row. And he says, 'Don't worry, honey, you'll have a pair of these soon.' And everybody went crazy. It felt like I was in the Roman Colosseum. As far as I'm concerned, it was an affront to anyone with a shred of dignity, self-respect and intelligence."

Heaton says she is not expecting any repercussions from the decision and certainly isn't expecting a "you'll never present in this town again" backlash.

"And if there is," she said, "who cares?

"When I was waiting for my car, one of the security people came up to me and said, 'I just want you to know how much I admire what you're doing.' So I wasn't the only one who felt this way. The camera coordinator for the awards was our camera coordinator from 'Raymond'. And when I walked on the set the next day, he started applauding."

That heavenly, hot-panted trio of detectives from ''Charlie's Angels'' -- Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu -- is back to tackle...a sequel to the $125 million-grossing original. Seems the database for the Witness Protection Program has been swiped, and the relocatees are being murdered. The Angels are called in to battle creepy Crispin Glover (returning as the Thin Man) and ''fallen angel'' Demi Moore. But enough of that plot stuff!

Along with more of those technorhythmic kung fu moves, the film will feature girl-on-girl-on-girl motocross mayhem, zippy dance scenes, oh and blatant bathing-suit frolicking. ''Demi goes toe-to-toe with Cameron in a bikini,'' enthuses returning director McG. ''A very powerful woman who has three children, and being the best she can be. It's very inspiring.'' ''Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle'' (opening June 27) will, in fact, mark the 40-year-old Moore's first film since 2000's flop ''Passion of Mind.'' Barrymore, also a producer, persuaded the actress to sign on.

Another person who took her invite: Bernie Mac, who replaces Bill Murray as the Angels' new boss, Bosley's brother. (As the story goes, the Bosleys are African-American; Murray's character was adopted.) As for the rumors that on-set bickering led to Murray's departure: Ridiculous! ''Contrary to what everybody may think, we're all buddies with Bill,'' McG says. ''We just thought we'd keep the wheel turning. We made a point when we hired Lucy Liu, which was to say: Look, Angels aren't skinny white women. You can be any shape, any size, any ethnicity.'' But if you look hot in a bikini, all the better.

Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees died because his bowel and small intestine had become so twisted they restricted his blood flow, according to autopsy results released yesterday (Jan. 16). As previously reported, the 53 year-old Gibb died Sunday, three days after suffering cardiac arrest prior to undergoing emergency surgery for an intestinal blockage. His funeral was held Wednesday in Miami.

Dr. Bruce Hyma, the Miami-Dade County medical examiner, said Gibb died because a condition called ischemic enteropathy restricted the flow of blood to his bowel. The autopsy, which was performed Tuesday, did not give the immediate cause of the twisting, but it said the singer was born with a malformed intestine that experts said can lead to life-threatening kinks.

"It's very uncommon, what happened to him," said Dr. Jeffrey Raskin, interim chief of gastroenterology at the University of Miami medical school. "People [with his condition] can live to middle age with no symptoms. They can have minor problems off and on. Or, they can present on the first time with a catastrophic event, as it seems in this case," said Raskin, who was not involved in Gibb's treatment.

Raskin said a twisted bowel can cause an array of internal problems. "It can lead to a cardiovascular collapse and possibly could have contributed to the cardiac arrest," he said.

Gibb's brothers, Robin and Barry Gibb, have questioned the decision by doctors at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach to operate after their brother's cardiac arrest. A hospital spokesperson declined comment yesterday. A spokesperson for Bee Gees manager Allen Kovac could not be reached for comment.

Rambo IV: The Sun reports that Sylvester Stallone is set to return as John Rambo for a fourth outing in a film based on a script he penned himself. Like the rumours last year, there's talk the action will take place in Afghanistan and has him battling with the Taliban - however, "the original story had Rambo killing bin Laden single-handed, but even Sly thought that was beyond the imagination. Instead he will be the brains behind bin Laden’s downfall" says one inside source. The idea has been on the cards for over a year now, but Miramax have only just agreed to the project says the report.

Cruise Filming Mission: Impossible 3 Next
    Sunday, January 19, 2003 11:11 CST

In an article from Variety on Tom Cruise's production company, C/W Productions, the trade mentions that Cruise is expected to shoot Mission: Impossible 3 next for Paramount with David Fincher directing a script from Robert Towne.

C/W Productions has been involved in such films as Narc and The Others and the company has 20 more films in development.

Upcoming releases with C/W production credits include the tale of a fallen journalist (Lions Gate's Shattered Glass), a serial killer thriller for Paramount (Suspect Zero), a historical epic (The Last Samurai) and "M:I-3".

Of the 20 C/W projects in development, about a dozen are potential Cruise vehicles.

The more intriguing, not necessarily including Cruise, are: The Light at the End of the Chunnel, about Middle Eastern immigrants trying to sneak into England; a remake of War of the Worlds; Carter Beats the Devil, about a 1920s magician; 17 Stone Angels, a mystery set in Argentina; and Bondswoman's Narrative, based on the first known novel authored by a female fugitive slave.

    Catwoman Casting Rumor
    Monday, January 20, 2003 4:41 CST

Take this with a grain of salt fans, according to Dark Horizons Ashley Judd will be replaced by Halle Berry...

"The talk of Ashley Judd being replaced by Halle Berry for "Catwoman" is true. Pitof hopes to have Berry locked in shortly for a Fall start. There's nothing major as to the reason of Judd's outing - simply said, it was a time-factor and Judd's busy as hell. And yes, Halle's definitely a bigger star action-movie wise these days. Anyway, it's almost a done deal. If it doesn't come off - there's a chance it'll pushed back, and they'll wait for Judd. Owen Wilson has signed to play a new character called Tom Lone, and Ellen Pompeo signed to play one of the film's vixens. There will be no Batman in the movie. John Rogers has done some amazing touch up work on the script too".

Entertainment Weekly's January 24, 2003 issue boasts revelations of seven secrets from Twentieth Century Fox's upcoming X-Men 2 and features the character Mystique on the cover. Part of its "Guide To 2003", the magazine discusses plot points and background information that viewers should know going into the sequel.

Some of the more salient morsels include mentions of new mutants in action (Banshee, Kitty Pryde, and Colossus), likely cameos (Jubilee and Gambit), and the reasoning behind the redesign of Cyclops' visor. Production designer Guy Dyas explains, "I always hated Cyclops' goggles...They looked like Princess Leia, with those huge things on the side." The article mentions that Dyas also redesigned the X-Jet because the plane will be featured to a greater extent in the sequel.

The article goes on the explain why the Danger Room, the X-Men's combat training facility, and characters such as the Beast and Angel were dropped from the sequel. Filmmakers decided to cut Beast and Angel because they felt there were already too many visually complicated characters in the script. Similarly, the Danger Room set was abandoned before completion because special effects were deemed to be too expensive.
