    TESLA DVD PRESS RELEASE:
    Press Release:
Tesla's Classic Five Man Video Band, an All-Live, All-Acoustic Rock 'N' Roll Breakthrough Featuring the Hit 'Signs,' Becomes the Group's First DVD Home Video.

The wildly successful "Unplugged" phenomenon just may have started with a most unlikely band, blue-collar hard rockers Tesla, and it's 1990 platinum album Five Man Acoustical Jam. Documenting that release, a live concert was filmed and Five Man Video Band was issued.
Now Tesla's first-ever DVD, the remastered (audio and video) Five Man Video Band (Geffen/UME), released February 26, 2002, features acoustic live versions of two then-new songs, covers of Tesla's favorite jamming classics (including what became a Top 10 hit, Signs) and many of their own hit songs -- all recorded at the Trocadero club in Philadelphia.
The band has scheduled some acoustic shows for February 2002:
Friday, Feb. 15, 2002 - House of Blues - West Hollywood, CA
Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002 - House of Blues/Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas, NV
Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002 - House of Blues - Anaheim, CA

Next up for Tesla is the DVD release of their other VHS release Time's Making Changes (due April 16) and a single CD version of their recent double live CD. The single disc version carries the new title Standing Room Only.

NEWS - Courtney Love Reconsiders Marriage To Kurt Cobain
    02/14/2002

(2/14/02, 5 p.m. ET) -- Almost eight years after the death by suicide of Nirvana's Kurt Cobain, the rocker's widow Courtney Love has expressed some regret about ever having married him in the first place.

Speaking about raising her daughter Francis Bean Cobain during a recent taping of Conversations From The Edge With Carrie Fisher, the always controversial musician/actress said, "I wish I hadn't married him. It's cool having the last name, but once I was sitting talking to Lisa Marie Presley and thought, 'This is going to suck.'"

Coincidentally, the comment comes as Love is mired in legal battles against former Nirvana members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic over control the band's catalog.

Love also addressed the rumors of a romance with actor Russell Crowe. "There are two-trillion women who want to sleep with him and I don't," she says. "I just want to have a hug."

Love's interview with Fisher can be seen in its entirety on Conversations From The Edge With Carrie Fisher on March 3 on the Oxygen cable network.

IRON MAIDEN To Enter Studio In September To Record New CD - Feb. 14, 2002

IRON MAIDEN will head back into the studio in September to begin working on their next record, which they hope to have done by the end of the year, vocalist Bruce Dickinson told MTV News. The band tentatively planning to tour the US next summer in support of the as-yet-untitled CD.

"I think it's taken people a little bit of time to get their heads around the idea that MAIDEN's back and not on a nostalgia trip," Dickinson said. "But now that a lot of kids now are switching on to the band having been alerted to us by SUM 41, LIMP BIZKIT or PAPA ROACH, and I think we're in a position now where we might be able to start rebuilding things in America."

In the meantime, IRON MAIDEN will release the double-live album Rock in Rio on March 26th. The album was recorded last year at the Rock in Rio festival in Brazil that also featured sets by SEPULTURA, HALFORD, GUNS N' ROSES, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE and FOO FIGHTERS, among others.

"It's the best live record we've released since Live After Death, which was in 1985," Dickinson told MTV. "There are no overdubs of any kind. The thing you notice the most is just how loud the audience are. They're singing every single word, and sometimes they're louder than the band."

A DVD of the concert will follow the album's release.

The Wind in the Willows : Disney is in talks with Guillermo del Toro (Blade II) to direct the studio's big-screen version of The Wind in the Willows, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Once a deal is reached, del Toro will work to further refine a treatment for and supervise the development of the film, which is based on Kenneth Grahame's 1908 children's book. No writer is yet attached. Willows is being envisioned as a live-action/computer-animated version of the classic animal adventure story, the trade paper reported

    Shrek Producer Adapting U.K.'s Schnozz
    Friday, February 15, 2002 12:21 CST

"Shrek" producer John H. Williams and his Vanguard Animation, will develop a CGI feature based on "Schnozz," a cartoon canine romp created by U.K. illustrator and character designer Gary Chapman and written by Jordan Katz.

Variety reports the film concerns a crossbreed mutt and the coterie of rejected animals he meets as he attempts to follow in the footsteps of his famous police dog father.

Williams just produced the Jackie Chan film "The Tuxedo" at Dreamworks, and Chapman designed the characters and story for "Junk," an animated musical in development at Warner Bros. He also designed the characters for Vanguard's upcoming production "Valiant," a parody of "Top Gun" portraying carrier pigeons serving in WWII Europe.

    NEWS - Chicago Turns 35
    02/15/2002

(2/15/02, 7 a.m. ET) -- The group Chicago formed 35 years ago today (February 15, 1967). Since that time, Chicago has gone on to become one of the most successful recording groups of all time. The group has sold more than 120 million records, earned more than 40 gold and platinum album awards, and scored five Number One albums. Chicago has also enjoyed 20 top-10 hits, including five Number Ones and five gold singles.

Chicago's music is unique, comprising a diverse mix of styles, including hard rock, jazz, pop, and classical. The band was also the first major rock group to include a horn section. They became well known for their energetic live shows and constant touring--in the early years, they played more than 300 dates a year. The group released its debut album in April 1969--the double-LP set titled Chicago Transit Authority.

Chicago's Robert Lamm told LAUNCH that, in the beginning, the group couldn't see anything past making their first album. "Like all probably young artists starting out, I think that your goals are short term, so obviously, you know, we were in a band and we were playing clubs and that kind of stuff, and we had a chance to make an album and that was really about as far as we could see. We were just so excited that we could actually go in and do an album and record some of this music that we had been creating," he said.

LAUNCH asked Lamm what else he'd like to see Chicago do during its career. "I want to see if Chicago can accomplish an album of music that is as broadly appealing as our early albums were. I'd like us to do an album that will make not only our peers in the musician community, but everybody in every demographic, you know, stand up and say, 'Yeah, Chicago--that's the album we've been waitin' for them to make.'"

Lamm told LAUNCH a new Chicago album is in the works--Chicago 27 for those who are counting. The group will embark on a tour from March until September, with the hope of getting into the recording studio in the fall.

    Matt Groenig Talks Simpsons Movie
    Friday, February 15, 2002 8:08 CST

Cinescape talked with "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groenig who gives an update on a possible movie based on the hit series.

"I've got lots of ideas, all of which seem like they might be more appropriate for the TV show," Groening said. "It's very hard to come up with stories that justify a big-screen treatment – But we're thinking about it."

When asked if fans would have to wait until the show ended before being treated to the film, he replied, "No. We'll get to it and everyone will be especially tired that year".

Futurama (TV): Exec Producer David X. Cohen has finally gone on the record to Cinescape about the status of the show - which isn't exactly cancelled it seems: "We're in what is basically an unprecedented situation in that we have so many new episodes that haven't aired yet, literally enough episodes to run the rest of this year and all of next year...So we're not cancelled in the sense that we're still on the air, we still expect to be on the air next year. We may even have a few more episodes than that than the number necessary to run this season and next season". Will there be further episodes produced though? No - "I'm still incredibly busy working on the episodes that people haven't seen yet. The show gets better and better. There are a lot of great episodes that are still going to be on. Obviously, they are letting us go out of production which means we're going to lose all of our writers and probably all of our animators. In the event which is probably a long shot, but by no means zero chance that they do decide they do want more episodes down the line. A whole new team would have to be put together, which is a big task".

KURT COBAIN's Journals To Be Published? - Feb. 15, 2002

The following item comes to us courtesy of The New York Post:

NIRVANA fans may get a special treat later this year. Sources close to the family of NIRVANA lead singer Kurt Cobain say Cobain's extensive journals, which he kept throughout his life, are making the rounds in New York publishing circles. "Kurt's family is trying to publish a book based on his writings," said one source. "There are lyrics, drawings, essays about his career plans for NIRVANA, updated lists of his favorite records, and extensive writings on drug use, the media" and the band's history. The book could boost Courtney Love in her fight against bandmates Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic over control of the group's legacy. Love maintains Cobain was its creative force, and that she, as his widow, should be in charge. "There is a lot of interest," says our source. "Kurt was remarkably insightful, funny and complicated. This book will be a primer for all young rock musicians and an education for everyone who thought they knew him." James Barber, representing Cobain's estate, is negotiating with publishers.

Ex-DEAD KENNEDYS Frontman Dishes Out On Punk, Death Metal - Feb. 15, 2002

Former DEAD KENNEDYS frontman Jello Biafra on “the punk community” and the death metal scene (as reported by Bad Subjects):

So you think there is no cohesive social group that can be referred to as "The Punk Community"?
Jello Biafra: There are threads of it, but punk has gotten so popular that the name gets attached to all sorts of things - everything from JAWBREAKER to BRUTAL TRUTH. There are all kinds of communities there, all networking with each other. None of them are as tight culturally as the death metal community where you have people in Norway swapping tapes with people in Malaysia, and all the bands sound more than a little bit alike. And isn't it ironic that death metal is the first form of rock music that has caught on with poor people over the world. When I was in Brazil, I was told that all rock music and punk was scorned by the people of the slums. It didn't speak to them. They thought of it as a bourgeois [art] form they didn't want to have anything to do with. They would rather listen to samba or death metal. Death metal is popular from Moldavia to Cuba.

    Why?
JB: Partly because in the grindcore form, it's easy to play and have a lot of attitude and fun with it. Also the violent and anti-Christian imagery has a worldwide appeal.

A radical response to a Catholic education...
JB: You would have no BRUJERIA without a pope to beat up on. I've been told that a lot of the illegal youth in L.A. have been blowing off Mexican music and hip hop to listen to death metal. A lot of them have their own bands and have been attempting to play on the street and the cops drove their cars right through it. Anything the gangster rappers say about the LA cops is true. Everything! I've seen DEAD KENNEDYS fans treated just like Rodney King in front of the Whiskey and at Wilmington — which wasn't even in the L.A.P.D.'s jurisdiction.

In 1988 when Pink Floyd last toured Australia, Roger Waters was no longer in the band. In fact, you would have to go back to the early 70's on the first Floyd tour to when Waters was last down under.

Australian Floyd fans will come out from their dark side of the moon next April. Waters has announced two shows, Sydney April 5 at the Entertainment Centre and Melbourne April 8 at Rod Laver Arena.

Waters announced his "In The Flesh" world tour 2002 in London this week, which unlike a Madonna world tour, actually travels to more than 6 countries.

"In The Flesh" presents, for the first time, a comprehensive overview of Waters' music including: early Pink Floyd material; classic compositions from his masterpieces "The Wall" and "Dark Side Of The Moon"; less well-known pieces from "Animals," "Wish You Were Here," and "The Final Cut"; songs from the solo tours de force "Amused To Death" and "The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking"; and the debut of a new song "Each Small Candle." Roger Waters co-founded the groundbreaking Pink Floyd with Syd Barrett in 1966 and became the group's sonic architect upon Barrett's departure, creating such undeniable classics as "Dark Side Of The Moon" (which spent nearly 15 years on the Billboard 200 album chart), "The Wall" (which has been certified 23x RIAA platinum), "Animals," "Wish You Were Here," and "Final Cut." Following "Final Cut," Roger Waters left Pink Floyd.

His first full-length solo album, "The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking," was released in April 1984, to great critical and popular success, generating his first solo tour. June 1987's "Radio K.A.O.S." continued the path of solo success, bringing Roger back to the stage. His last full-length solo album, the moody and ironic "Amused To Death," considered by many to be a comparable achievement to "Dark Side Of The Moon" or "The Wall," was released in August 1992.

Waters has been working on "Ca Ira" (pronounced "sa-ira"), an opera in English and French, as well as a new rock album to be released in 2002.

It is the world's worst kept secret, Roger Waters Australian tour dates.

The former Pink Floyd singer told the world he was bringing his In The Flesh Show to Australia last October.

We can finally "officially" tell you the tour is going to happen.

Roger Waters will perform two shows only in Australia. The dates are April 5 Sydney Entertainment Centre, April 8 Melbourne Rod Laver Arena.

"In The Flesh" presents, for the first time, a comprehensive overview of Waters' music including: early Pink Floyd material; classic compositions from his masterpieces "The Wall" and "Dark Side Of The Moon"; less well-known pieces from "Animals," "Wish You Were Here," and "The Final Cut"; songs from the solo tours de force "Amused To Death" and "The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking"; and the debut of a new song "Each Small Candle."

The "In The Flesh" shows utilize elaborate large-scale video projections, theatrical set-pieces, and a dazzling array of special effects to underscore and accentuate the power of the music which is delivered via a state-of-the-art 360° quadraphonic sound system immersing the audience in a 3-dimensional hyperworld.

Waters is accompanied by his hand-picked group of world-class musicians:
Roger Waters - vocal, guitar and bass
Andy Fairweather Low - guitar and vocal
    Snowy White - guitar
Chester Kamen - guitar and vocal
    Harry Waters - keyboards
    Andy Wallace - keyboards
    Graham Broad - drums
    Norbert Stachel - saxophone
    Katie Kissoon - vocals
    PP Arnold - vocals
    Linda Lewis - vocals

Tickets for both shows go on sale Monday February 25.
