What the fuck is going on lately?

On Sunday, a mom killed her 7 year old daughter in Falmouth, Mass.

Yesterday the crazy bitch in Houston killed ALL 7 of her kids.

If people can't handle parenthood, give up your kids so people that can't have kids can take care of them and raise them with love.

This is getting way out of control.

Not to mention the horrible accident at Tommy Lee's house the other day.

Time for America to take better care of their children.
'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.

I don't know about giving licenses to be a parent, but I DO think that parenting and discipline classes should be mandatory. Anyone hear about the mom who locked her 8 yr old in a closet for 4 months. It's really sad.

I know, but this type of thing puts me on a rant.

If a license was involved, so would be the government. I'm sure you would agree.

You're probably right. But I do think SOMETHING needs to be done. This is a subject that really pisses me off, too. Especially when I look at my beautiful babies (well, their not really babies anymore, but you get the idea)...

One problem, in my opinion, is there are a lot of kids raising kids. Young people having kids, that are self centered, and still growing up, typically don't have the skills required to raise a child. They depend on their own parents to raise/support them and their kids.

Another problem, people in general do not want to get involved if there may be abuse going on...so it continues. Not too long ago, a 10yr old boy had been beaten, with a
hammer, and his natural mother and her boyfriend locked him in an apt, and left him to die. They were found in another city.

Another child was killed by his mother (3yrs old). She went all the way to the mall, and said that while she was going to the bathroom, the child escaped. There was a massive manhunt for this child. The child was found in a dumpster.

I want to believe that there are signs to see this coming, ifpeople chose to see it. You can talk about this stuff all you want, but you also have to pay attention to what's going on around you.

Ever been in a store and hear the way some parents talk to their kids? Imagine what it's like for that child when their not in public. And the kids accept that as normal, so they don't say anything....and it always gets worse (death) never better, unless drastic measures by someone else are taken.

I think there should be classes made available for parents...but it would be their choice to take the classes.

Many young mothers are on some form of public assistance. Make a condition of that assistance that they attend some sort of regular child-developement classes or support groups. That'd give them the tools they need, and help keep the problem from building on itself generation to generation.

I don't agree with mandatory classes for all prospective parents, but something like this would not be unreasonable. Alot of other government programs have conditional requirements - can you think of another one that's any more important than the well-being of children?

No doubt. There are plenty of classes available to whoever wants them even right now. The day somebody forced me to take a parenting class would be the day I moved to Austrailia to hang out with goo. I might even kill a mother fucker first.

I'm halfway kidding of course, but even the THOUGHT of this makes happy go lucky seenbad a raging psycho.

You read about child abuse and neglect, watch it on TV and in some cases even know homes where it exists. There are far too many children who are victims.

I understand what porn*chick was saying. I think porn*chick was making a passionate statement. I've made the same one myself...but when you think it through, like seenbad pointed out... It's not necessarily the fact that I REALLY want to see parents be forced to take parenting classes, but somehow something has to be done.

I like MikeL's suggestion that welfare recipients be required to take a parenting course as a contingency for receiving their aid....and that they be required to take a refresher course with each child that they give birth to. They could make it part of the WIC program. I'm not that familiar with WIC, and they may already have that in their system.

The point is, far too many children are being abused. It has to stop somewhere, or it will only continue. Economic times worsen, so will the abuse.

But...getting back to the woman in TX who killed her five children ...doesn't sound like it was an abuse thing... It sounds like it was a case of post partem depression that appeared to worsen with the birth of each child. Where was this woman's doctor after she gave birth to her fourth? I wonder if he encouraged her to not have more children. And what about the husband's role? If her depression got worse with each child...why have a fifth?
