My $02: The first movie was a good....try. This franchise needs to be taken out of Bryan Singer's hands. There are too many great storylines and villains from the comic book series to have such a lame plot for the second movie! Stryker? Wow! He really scared me in the comics! What about "Dark Phoenix"? The Sentinels? The Brood? The Shi'ar? The Hellfire Club? Hell, have them fight "Alpha Flight"! Will somebody with some ties to Marvel Comics or FOX let me give them a great script? I'd get rid of those lame Matrix-wannabe outfits, get somebody younger and more imposing to play Magneto, and have some eye-candy that would dazzle your senses! BTW, to my fellow nerds-they've cut out the Danger Room once again and the Sentinels in the sequel!

I hear ya FH, although I don't think it's Singer's fault as much as budgetary constraints. The first movie made money, but not enough to justify a Spiderman budget. Things like the Danger Room, Sentinels, Nighcrawler, etc. require big-time CGI, hence big-time bucks. Until, the technology gets cheaper, they'll still lean towards live action storylines they can pull off without a ton of visual effects.

At least Singer respects the mag enough to portray the characters properly without reducing it to cartoonish pulp (ala Joel Schumacher's Batman movies). Would like to see the Juggernaut myself. Surely, it's not that hard to crash a fat guy through some walls

    Good news FH,

Looks like the Sentinels are in. It would appear the budget's significantly larger on the sequel, so there should be some good eye candy after all.

FH, take a step back and get realistic for a moment. Whenever you take something like a comic book property and translate it into a film, television show, or whatever, they're seeking out an audience larger than the hardcore comic fans. In order to do that, they have to choose elements of the comic that are normal enough for movie-goers to embrace it. You'll never ever see the Dark Phoenix, the Phalanax, the Apocalypse World, or what have you on the big screen because it will prompt choruses of, "What the HELL?" from casual viewers. They'd rather have character-driven stories - like the first and most probably this film - that everyone can relate to. This is why the first movie was excellent and did well.

The difference between X-Men and Spider-Man is Spider-Man at heart is the "everyday" super hero. While the X-Men worry about an intergalactic virus that is assimilating mutants, Spider-Man worries about paying rent. There are many Spidey stories that couldn't be made into a movie (clone storyline, the whole John Jameson/Man Wolf deal, Venom, Carnage), but there are equally as many that very easily can. Scriptwriters find themselves having to try and bring the mutants of the X-Men down to normal person standards.

As for the costums, yes, the ones they used in the first flick sucked, but given the alternative of the spandex suits in the comic, I think they made the right call going with that they did.

    Well yes, yes you can.

About the only way a fan of a comic book can see everything they want to see out of adaptions of it is to pray for a semi-faithful cartoon like the X-Men toon on Fox was.
