Baseball season is here.

If interest warrants, I'll set up a public league on CBSportsline (it's free, unlike ESPN) for VHLinkers who just can't get enough of our national pastime.

You need to:
1. Get a cbssportsline fantasy login.
2. Eventually let me know what your email is.
3. Pick a time that you know you can respond.

The way it works...
I'll set up a public league on cbs, then it will ask me if I have the email addresses of any friends I want to join. That way, you'll get first crack at joining. Shortly after that, it opens up to anyone in cbssportsine land to join it. So time is of the essence.

Now, we need some feedback...
Are you in??
Do you prefer rotisserie or head to head play?
AL only? NL only? Both leagues?

I prefer head to head, and since we have linkers from all over the place, I think it should be both leagues.

A bunch of us did the ESPN free one last year - that is my preference, yes, they have one you gotta pay for, but they should also have one that is free - last year you picked one person at each position (any league) and a pitching staff, you could drop and add players as often as you liked - couldn't see the other players' teams until game day, season was in two halfs with weekly segments - it was just real easy.

I would like to do this......my only preference is that the NL is somehow involved.

Then of course in the third reconciliation of the last of the Meketrex supplicants they chose a new form for him, that of a Sloar. Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day I can tell you.

Hmm, when I went their this morning, I was under the impression you had to pay regardless. The CBS league allows 25 man rosters so you can reserve players, make trades etc. I'll look into the ESPN one more closely.

I just went back to the ESPN fantasy site and I had to give them a credit card to sign in. Also, all of the fantasy baseball options they had for this year are fee related. Perhaps they did away with the free league?? I know cbs charges this yearfor private leagues, last year we ran our private league for free. so maybe?

Anyways, here is the link to the free cbs site features. Check it out....

Hellowhawk.... I'm in in whatever league you do. CBS is fine, ESPN will probably have a free one late but that may be a hassle to get into, and Yahoo is also an option. However, whenever, wherever, - I'm in.

Billyb007 - same with you. I haven't tried the ESPN one yet but if it's the same (basically) as the CBS one, I'll play, but I think having a "focused one-league" for this board is the way to go.

I also wanna add Hawk that the only things I'd like to see are both AL/NL and big rosters (say 20-25 man at least) that you have to decide who to play or bench for any given day or week. Email me and I'll get back to ya. My email address is listed below in the tray thingy (whatever Brett calls it).

Yeah, espn has the pay one up now, but the free one should be up there a week or two before the season starts (the pay one is fantasy baseball league, the free one should be called baseball challenge). I've played a lot of fantasy games on espn in all sports and never paid 'em a dime.

Maybe someone should set up a poll!

I don't think the cbs one is what everyone wants. The espn one they had last year we were able to set up our own league and play agaist each other, I don't think you can do that in the cbs one.

I wasnt aware that CBS sportline charged at all...I have been in a legue there for 2 years (between football and baseball) and my commish has never mention being charged for anything. I like head to head since it is more of a factor to get your line-up straight each week. Yahoo has a cool free private league set-up and it is easy to access stats and available players. The only problem I can see is drafting our players. An online draft would have to carefully coordinated so everyone is on at the same time. OR an option is, everyone rates their players and do an auto-draft. No salary cap and both leagues is my preference....(better competition) and we get to rank all of our favorite players. 20 man rosters should be enough that anyone could still "pick-up" decent players after the draft if the get stuck with an injured player or scrubs they hate!

You can play head to head on CBS with a full roster of players. That was my point with using CBS, we would have a head to head league.
The draft wouldn't be online (I doubt we could all free up 3 hours of our days at the same time for this), but rather a few days after the league gets filled up, they draft for you. They give you a few days before to rank the players by position for the draft. They have a preset ranking for each position too, so it's real easy to move guys around.

ESPN or CBS? Certainly we can solve this quicker that the MLBPA / Owners negotiations.

Well, you know where my preference stands. If we wanna use ESPN, it's cool with me, then I don't have to set up a league.

Hey! I'm up for it too.

I don't really have a preference, but if a lot of people used ESPN last year and we can get it for free again, I'd say we should just go with it for this season.

Most of the emails I got were from those of you who posted here. (Where's Wolfman???) I'm not sure how many people we need. Billy007, or somebody who used ESPN last year, wanna give us a rundown on ESPN's league set up?

Well, basically it was like this.

On the "Baseball Challenge" - you were basically competing against everyone else in the espn universe who chose this game. But you could also set up a public or private group - we did private - and compare against one another. WARHEAD came over in the second half and taught us all a valuable lesson! There's even a bulletin board with the group that you can talk "smack" at one another. Anyway, your team consisted of one each position player (including the dreaded DH) and a pitching staff. You scored points based on your individual player performances, I believe 1 point for each total base, run scored, run batted in and stolen base. The pitching staff was like a point for each out, each strike out and I think 5 points for a win, but you lost a point for each walk or hit, and 3 points for each run given up - therefore if your pitching staff got completely and utterly racked, it was possible to get negative points, which could really take the wind out of a three home run day from one of your position players!
You are allowed to add and drop players as often as you like, and players are not exclusive, meaning it's possible everyone in the group could have Alex Rodriguez at the same time (and they often did!) - but you couldn't see your opponent's lineup until gameday, when it was too late to make any changes to your own. Oh, the team was salary based, but every week the salary was renegotiated, so if you had a player that might be in a slump that you didn't want to drop yet, his value might go down and you could renegotiate down to the lower figure and clear room on your salary cap. Players whose salary went up stayed at whatever salary you picked them up at until you dropped them. It was real simple and easy as far as I was concerned, I enjoyed being able to monitor my competitors as the night wore on and I felt we had fun with it. We started I think with 20-something players, but a bunch of those didn't continue into the second half. I think you can put a limit on how many people are in the group, but we didn't. Hopefully that gives you a good enough idea, but if you have any other questions, I'll try to remember the answers!
