My 20gb iPod showed up today. Damn, but what a piece of art! It's the size of a deck of cards, and it only took about 15 minutes to put 11gb of songs on it. Very cool stuff! It puts my old Nomad II to shame.

Does anybody use an MP3 player in their car? If you do, how do you hook it up to the stereo? I can't find my old Discman cassette adaptor, so I figure I'll have to pick one of those up or get one of the little FM transmitters. Has anyone used one of those? I've read some mixed reviews, and would like to hear someone else's experiences.

Does that one come with all the U2 songs on it already? I thought I read that it did?

I got a mini for Christmas, they are sweet, it's only 4gb and the battery seems to run out quicker than they claim, but it still kicks ass, and since it was a gift, I ain't complaining!

So far I have every Zepp song and every VH song (normal studio releases, no boots or LIVE stuff) on it at 128kbs....and there's still tons of space left.

mikeL...at almost all audio stores, you can buy a very simple adapter that'll allow you to plug your ipod right into your car stereo...if that is acceptable....

Go buy another one of those cassette adapters, that works with ipods for the car stereo and is much cheaper than the wireless adapter. If $$$ is not a problem then pick up the wireless.

I use one of the cassette adapters for mine. The FM transmitter is cool but as you drive from place to place you sometimes pick up static as you pick up other stations close to those used by the transmitter. Mine has 4 options (88.1, 88.3, 88.5, 88.7) but I end up having to change the station a lot. Those are best used for home stereos. It keeps you from having to go to the player to change songs since you can keep it with you.
I have an iPod 40GB and an Archos Video AV140 (40GB). They are both cool for different reasons. I can record video and/or audio into the Archos from TV or radio or a video camera and I can make music playlists easily on the fly. But the iPod really makes song selection easy. If you're like me sometimes you can only remember the name of a song but not the group. The option to choose songs by title, artist, album or genre easily with the click wheel rocks. That's where iPod really kicks ass! Plus for commuters, being able to play games on it while you listen helps pass the time more quickly.

I got a Rio Carbon yesterday as a surprise gift for no reason whatsoever. It's pretty slick. I hadn't asked for it or anything, just an out of the blue gift. I really like it so far. It has 5 gig's, is really small, and sounds great. I've got allot of stuff on it already including the entire Led Zeppelin box set and the whole VH catalogue, etc.. and i'm still only up to 1 gig full.

Another old thread rears its ugly head...

Sacto, are you going to download the U2 box set? iPods are just the coolest thing ever created. I got a letter from a buddy yesterday, who'd gotten an iPod recently. "Wondering how I ever lived before," he said. That's about it, too. I'm on my second one, a 40 gigger this time. Good stuff!

Mike, I'm not interested in the box set. It's full of remixes of songs from the mid-90's which was U2's low water mark creatively, IMO...

Now, I am going to use my larger Sony headphones until I buy the Bose Noiseless...Those earplug phones aren't worth a squirt of piss...

Shit man, I didn't even see the date of the original post. I just got fooled for a second on the "David Lee Roth Is Back in Van Halen" thread too.
Oh well, maybe this thread will be helpful to someone else...
