A short time ago the Boston Red Sox terminated the contract of manager Jimy Williams.

Possible replacements are either 3rd base coach Gene Lamont or former Expos manager Felipe Alou.

I know we have the Dugout, but this is a headline that I wanted seen.

Eddymon - It is another stupid Duquette move. The Yankee fans applaud the move. You have now officially taken the Red Sox out of contention this season. Jimy was a wonderful manager for the Red Sox. He took them to the playoffs after losing Vaughn and Clemens. The curse continues!

I don't really know much about the situation in Boston, but this move seems very odd to me at this time. It seems like Williams has done a pretty good job keeping this team in contention, even though most of their pitchers have been injured at different points of the season, not to mention Garciaparra being on the DL until this month.

I just think these sorts of moves should be done in the off-season. I expect they will probably just promote a current member of the coaching staff to interim manager for the rest of the season, and I don't see how that's going to make these guys get off the DL faster or make them play better.

Eddymon, you obviously know the situation better than me, why was Williams that bad and how does this give the Red Sox a better chance at beating out the Yankees this year?

Is seams like he has done a lot with a patchwork pitching staff for the past few years and a ton of injuries this year.

I know nobody is happy the way he's handled Offerman in the line up this year, but still.

I hope the Brewers fire Lopes and go after a veteran skipper like Williams or Alou.

Thanks Duquette!!

what a jackass move by the sox.

let's see.

nomar has been out just about all year long. the best pitcher in baseball is hurt. carl everett is a fucking moron. your catcher breaks his arm. oh i'm sorry, it's all jimy william's fault

did jimy also get rid of boggs, clemens, and vaughn?? uh....no! that's all duquette man.

i mean, i know i'm a yanks fan, but why fire yer manager when yer only five games out of first half way throguh august and yer last 17 games are against the tigers, orioles, and devil rays?

they deserve to lose now.

For Williams to keep that team in contention despite losing his top players (including his ace) deserves a contract extension.

What the hell were they thinking?!?

I think it just comes down to the fact that Bostonians are angry, thickheaded, dense people who like to place blame on someone to make themselves feel better. Whenever I go up to Fenway I see TONS of people with shirts that say "Yankees Suck" , "Jeter Sucks" , "New York Sucks" etc.

I don't know, maybe I'm wrong but a team that's won 26 championships in 100 years (same amount of time BoSox have existed) and has won 3 consecutive championships can't be all that bad.

Also, the whole racist attitude up there has gotta go. They've never liked any of their black or puerto rican players simply because of the color of their skin. They love Nomar now but they're constantly ripping on Manny Ramirez and Carl Everett and are known for disliking star players like Jim Rice and Robert Parish because they were black.

Maybe they should take the "Yankees Suck" shirts off and wake up.

Boston is done, put a fork in them!! What a stupid move that was!

Why fire him now with a month and a half to go and your in the middle of the pennant race?? If you dont like him can him in June or May not at the end of August!!

Ohhh and Everett is a NO CLASS MORON and all Sox fans should be ashamed to have him wear the uniform.
((Just My Two Cents))
And thats about what its worth.
