The band will be on the road for seven weeks and 31 dates, which kick off May 31 at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nevada, and wrap up July 20 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi. The group played Europe last year, but the new road stint represents the first proper North American tour since the #### Freezes Over outing in the mid-'90s.

The band is partnering with Yahoo! and LAUNCH for a series of promotions related to the tour. First up is an online ticket pre-sale on Thursday (April 18) at eagles.yahoo.com for the May 31 kickoff in Reno, Nevada, as well as the June 3 show at the UTEP Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas; the June 13 date at the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Oregon; and the July 8 gig at the Mark Of The Quad Cities in Moline, Illinois. General ticket sales for those concerts gets underway Monday (April 22) through Ticketmaster. Further information about online and public on-sale dates is expected shortly.

As part of the ticket promotion, people who buy their seats through Yahoo! will have the chance to win front-row seats, and there will also be an auction that includes autographed guitars and Selected Works: 1972-1999 CD boxed sets, as well as a trip to the June 1 show at the Joint At The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas that includes a meet-and-greet with the bandmembers. Proceeds from the auction will benefit A Grass Roots Aspen Experience, the Caddo Lake Institute, C.O.A.C.H for Kids, and the California Innocence Project.

In addition, rare Eagles videos will be featured on LAUNCH (launch.yahoo.com), and a wide selection of the group's music will be featured on LAUNCHcast, LAUNCH's free Internet audio player.

THE OSBOURNES: Second Season To Be Shot In Remote Brit Farmhouse? - Apr. 16, 2002

The following article appeared in today's edition of the New York Post:

April 16, 2002 -- Some members of Ozzy Osbourne's family may be standing in the way of MTV's desire for a second season of its red-hot, reality-based sitcom, The Osbournes.

Negotiations for a second season have been underway virtually since the series premiered March 5 to huge ratings and rave reviews. But there are indications that some of the Osbourne clan - particularly teen sibs Kelly and Jack - are not eager to share their home with MTV camera crews for another five months.

MTV, though, is desperate to begin work on a second-season of the megahit series, even though the current season is only half over. Episode 7 of 13 airs tonight at 10:30.

But the show's runaway success has turned life upside down for the Osbourne family, as tourists crowd the normally quiet street in Beverly Hills where the family lives in a recently refurbished mansion.

Mom Sharon Osbourne, who has been married to heavy-metal superstar Ozzy for 20 years, has complained to Beverly Hills police that tourists are over-running the family's yard.

As a result of the tumult around their home, the Osbournes are dropping hints that a second season will be possible only if MTV agrees to allow the family to film the show at the family's secluded 100-year-old farmhouse in England.

MTV isn't commenting on that idea, even though it was reported in this week's wide-ranging cover story on the Osbournes in Entertainment Weekly magazine.

Nor will MTV say anything about the ongoing negotiations except to confirm that the network would like to see the series continue for a second season.

A spokeswoman would not comment on speculation that some members of the family are against continuing the show.

Indeed, it was just a few weeks ago that the entire family seemed dead set against a second season when they appeared together on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno March 29.

"Now, you think you'll do another season or two of the show? Could you live with the cameras in your house anymore?" asked Leno.

The four Osbournes all answered "No!"

Fincher Takes on Mission: Impossible III!
    Tuesday, April 16, 2002 11:45 CDT

Variety reports that David Fincher ("Se7en," "Fight Club," "Panic Room") is in final negotiations to direct Paramount Pictures' "Mission: Impossible III" for producers Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner.

The trade says that Fincher is understood to have become close to Cruise in recent months due to overlapping interests. The director had been mulling helming WWII Pacific actioner "They Fought Alone" (also known as "Fertig") for Columbia, which Cruise had been circling to star as Col. Wendell Fertig. The actor ultimately elected to topline Warner Bros.' war drama "The Last Samurai," but the two remained eager to find a project on which to work together.

The two previous "Mission: Impossible" filmspics, helmed by Brian DePalma (1996) and John Woo (2000), have grossed $454 million and $546 million worldwide, respectively

    Anderson Pic is Punch-Drunk Love
    Tuesday, April 16, 2002 11:34 CDT

Variety reports that Revolution Studios has finally announced an official title for the fourth Paul Thomas Anderson film, tagging it "Punch-Drunk Love." The title was one of a few that floated around the project for months, competing most notably with "Punchdrunk Knuckle Love" and fueling months of Internet speculation. The dark romantic comedy stars Adam Sandler and Emily Watson, along with such Anderson regulars as Philip Seymour Hoffman and Luis Guzman.

Sandler plays Barry Egan, a small-business owner who grew up with seven sisters, abused and afraid of love. Watson plays a mysterious woman who, along with a harmonium, comes into his life and sets him on a romantic journey. Pic is expected to bow in the fourth quarter, though Revolution has yet to pick a debut date.

NEWS - Aerosmith's MTV Icon Award Show Hits The Airwaves
    04/16/2002

(4/16/02, 6 p.m. ET) -- The life and times of Aerosmith are celebrated at the MTV Icon Award ceremony, which airs Wednesday night (April17) at 9 p.m. ET/PT and 8 p.m. CT on the cable channel.

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler said the event spans the group's history. "We've come full circle. Tonight we're playing, opening up with a song that Joe (Perry) and I wrote in '71 called 'Movin' Out' (from the band's self-titled debut in 1973), and we're gonna end with a song we wrote last week."

The ever-mischievous Tyler added that he had a personal reason for wanting to do the show. "That's the whole perk tonight--is to see other people doing your 'yadda yadda,' you know? That way, we can make fun of 'em after the show," he quipped.

Bassist Tom Hamilton said the bandmembers were both surprised and pleased with the honor. "It's not something that you set out to try to do when you're first starting your band. First of all, MTV didn't even exist when we started our band. It comes along just out of nowhere, and it's amazing. First you kinda laugh, and then, you know, as we got out here and started putting the show together, (you) get a really good feeling from it," he said.

The ceremony, which took place Sunday (April14) in Los Angeles, features acts covering Aerosmith songs. Participating artists included Pink ("Janie's Got A Gun"), Shakira ("Dude (Looks Like A Lady)"), Kid Rock ("Last Child"), Train ("Dream On"), and Papa Roach ("Sweet Emotion"), among others. In addition, testimonials featured surprise guests Metallica, as well as Janet Jackson, Limp Bizkit leader Fred Durst, and video stars Alicia Silverstone ("Cryin'," "Crazy") and Mila Kunis ("Jaded," That '70s Show).

Here's a description of the DareDevil costume c/o Ain't It Cool News.........

I worked on the set of Daredevil today (4/16-downtown LA, I was an extra). The costume is disappointing. It's basically a dark red leather motorcycle jacket with matching red leather riding pants (attaches by cleverly concealed velcro and zipper). It looks like something a pro racer would wear. The DD logo appears on the upper left breast of the coat, and the boots (same color) are obnoxious biker boots with lots of straps and buckles. I didn't see the gloves, but the mask is pretty cool. It has the horns and pretty much looks just like in the comic. It has a sculpted brow and looks like a Bowen bust. Now, I don't know what rating they're going for, but the scene I was in had a waitress in a seedy biker bar flash her bare breasts (they didn't cheat it at all). DD comes crashing through a skylight/ glass ceiling and prepares to beat ass. Thought you might like to know.

Coldplay To Call It A Day?
As Coldplay ready themselves to release their new album, ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head,’ there are stories circulating that it might be the bands last release. In an exclusive interview with nme.com, Coldplay’s singer Chris Martin said: “As far as I’m concerned this will be the last one we ever make. But I hope that one day we have some more songs, you know?” When asked to explain his remarks the singer said that he felt that the band would only do another album if they could do it better then the one they are about to release and that he doesn’t really care about the whole 15 album thing. “I like the whole Joy Division approach, two albums then…well, not hang yourself!” Coldplay singer, Chris Martin has said that the running theme on the new album is “how things must be done today.” The band are currently in the final mixing stages of the CD.

Take it with a grain of salt but Coming Attractions has received a report indicating The Hulk (Eric Bana) might actually be 'son of Hulk'. "Our latest scooper read the casting breakdowns of some of the Hulk characters, and when they read the description of Nolte's part, their eyes did a double-take. Our scooper says that Nolte's character is Dr. David Banner, and that the elder doctor "was also a 'Hulk' along with Bruce." That would add a whole new element into the movie origins of the Hulk character not found in the comic book incarnation."

    Jerry Seinfeld: The Movie
    by Josh Grossberg
    Apr 16, 2002, 1:15 PM PT

To paraphrase the old joke: Dying is easy, comedy is hard, and buying the rights to Jerry Seinfeld's debut film is damn near impossible. Unless, of course, you're Harvey Weinstein.

According to Daily Variety, Miramax has offered up an undisclosed (but dare we say hefty) chunk of change to acquire the exclusive worldwide rights to Seinfeld's Comedian, a behind-the-scenes documentary following the master in his domain both on and off the stage as he traveled across the country for his national stand-up tour.

After a heated bidding war, the Weinstein-led studio beat out several distributors for the chance to release this inside look into Jerry's world. No immediate word on when the film will hit theaters.

The 100-minute film, which the ex-sitcom star funded himself, was shot on digital video and directed by Christian Charles and produced by Gary Streiner. Both men are former Ogilvy & Mather advertising types who previously collaborated with Seinfeld on those hilarious spots he did for American Express. The two filmmakers devoted nearly a year and a half to following Seinfeld around on tour.

Comedian will give Seinfeld fans a peak at life on the road with the former sitcom king, focusing mainly on the moments before and after his gigs. While the focus will be on Seinfeld's backstage antics (kind of like Seinfeld the show), there will be a few snippets of Jerry's onstage banter, as he mocks marriage, his former stint as the country's most eligible bachelor and life after his fabled NBC show. (A concert film of Seinfeld's live act aired on HBO and was released on CD.)

The film also includes cameos by such Seinfeld pals Chris Rock, Garry Shandling and Colin Quinn.

Seinfeld's led a charmed life since concluding his NBC series four years ago, mostly laying low with wife Jessica Sklar and their year-and-half-old daughter Sascha and generally avoiding the Seinfeld curse that seems to be plaguing his former castmates, Michael Richards and Jason Alexander, who've seen their respective attempts at a TV comeback tank--not that there's anything wrong with that since they've already made their millions. (And with few people watching Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Watching Ellie, it looks like she could be the next victim.)

Aside from striking out on tour every so often to support his stand-up habit and break in new material, Seinfeld organized a one-night-only benefit last October at Carnegie Hall, in which he and funny friends like Bill Cosby cracked jokes for the families of New York emergency workers killed in the terror attacks on the Twin Towers.

Aside from the feature film, Seinfeld is next due to pop up in NBC's 75th Anniversary Special airing live on May 5. The special features NBC's greatest hits and, in addition to Seinfeld, includes appearances by the Cos, on-air personalities from Today and other current and past Peacock stars.

JASON NEWSTED: JAMES HETFIELD Is A Changed Man - Apr. 17, 2002

Former METALLICA bassist Jason Newsted stopped by the New York City headquarters of Hard Attack, the nation's first 24-hour metal radio station on Sirius Satellite Radio, yesterday (Tuesday, April 16th) and spoke at length on topics ranging from his recent dinner meeting with METALLICA frontman James Hetfield to his feelings on the break-up of MEGADETH and the possibility of ex-MEGADETH bassist Dave Ellefson taking his spot in METALLICA. Here are a couple of highlights from that interview (provided exclusively to BLABBERMOUTH.NET):

On the break-up of MEGADETH and Dave Mustaine's injury that was cited as the official reason for the split:
“That's sad, man, really sad. Because it was forced...it's just really, really sad for someone who was such a prolific writer. He really came up with some great stuff, you know. The actual fluidity and ability that he had on the guitar, just out-and-out speed, was pretty amazing. [My old band] FLOTSAM [AND JETSAM] opened a lot of shows for MEGADETH back in the day, and we spent a lot of time together, so I'm just sorry to hear about the whole thing.”

On referring to MEGADETH as a "watered-down METALLICA" in a previous interview:
“I think I was talking about ECHOBRAIN and people being surprised by the sound of the band, that they wanted something heavier but still liked it. The most common response was, 'Wow, we wanted something heavier, but we still like it.' So I was saying that it would have been so stupid to do something predictable like a watered-down or wannabe METALLICA, or rap-rock record, or something like that. And in that context, I said something to the effect that MEGADETH was always just behind METALLICA and always wanted to be METALLICA. So I won't back off that. I think it's an absolutely true statement. But it's not a disrespectful statement. Dave [Mustaine] was, and maybe still is, quite bitter about that, and he always wanted to achieve what METALLICA achieved. They wrote great songs, made great records, but were never quite able to get to that pinnacle.”

On the rumors about ex-MEGADETH bassist Dave Ellefson replacing him in METALLICA:
“That would be pretty weird. It would be a good fit but only musician-wise. Dave is one of the best bass players that has ever been in metal, no two ways about it. I still look up to him. And he's a good guy, which is why I wouldn't wish it upon him. He could definitely handle the gig as far as the playing and the interviews and all that, but dealing with the inner workings, I don't know.”

On his recent dinner meeting with Hetfield:
“[James is] a changed man. But it's good. His eyes are clear. He's always been the most honest person I've ever known, and that's still there and it's still pretty serious business, but we hadn't sat together, just the two of us, without anything else going on, in ten years. So we finally got to sit down for two hours, just hang out for a second, and talk. It was good. We're brothers, man. There were always two dressing rooms for METALLICA: Kirk and Lars, and James and Jason. We were together all the time, and he's still the person I respect in music more than any other.”

Hard Attack is the nation's first 24-hour metal radio station on Sirius Satellite Radio, a new national radio service for the car that will provide 100 channels of digital entertainment coast-to-coast, including 60 original channels of completely commercial-free music. Sirius debuted its service in mid-February in four cities — Houston, Denver, Phoenix, and Jackson, Mississippi — with its national rollout expected to be completed by the summer. DAVE ELLEFSON: I Would Be Honored If METALLICA Asked Me To Join - Apr. 17, 2002

Former MEGADETH bassist Dave Ellefson recently agreed to answer in the written form several questions submitted to him by BLABBERMOUTH.NET regarding MEGADETH's break-up and the bassist's future plans. Here are our questions and his reponses:

Question: When did it first become apparent to you that MEGADETH's career was coming to an end?

Dave Ellefson: On March 3rd, Dave called me and told me he was quitting MEGADETH.

Q: In the official statement announcing the band's split, the break-up was attributed to Dave Mustaine's nerve damage in his left arm and hand brought on by an injury suffered back in January. Were there any other factors that contributed to the group's decision to go separate ways?

Dave Ellefson: Well, we didn't decide anything as a group. Dave made the decision to leave and therefore MEGADETH has no frontman. It would be pretty silly to try and continue on without him.

Q: An MTV report published immediately after the split was announced suggested that Mustaine's injury was caused during a stint at a rehab in Texas. How was the injury sustained, and did it occur, as some had suggested, as part of a suicide attempt?

Dave Ellefson: You'll have to talk with Dave on the personal issues but I can attest that from what he told me it was not a suicide attempt.

Q: Some have suggested that Dave Mustaine's increased spirituality and stronger religious faith has been instrumental in his decision to disband MEGADETH. How much of a factor, if at all, were his religious beliefs in the group's break-up?

Dave Ellefson: It's pretty difficult to talk about spiritual or religious issues in the media, unless you're STRYPER or SLAYER. I will say that it has been difficult for MEGADETH to grow in recent years while trying to satisfy some fans who seem disappointed that we may sing about anything other than war or devils.

Q: Why was it necessary for the band to split up and not simply take a long break to allow Mustaine's arm and hand to heal properly before regrouping and carrying on with the band's affairs?

Dave Ellefson: Again it was Dave's decision to leave. However, as his press release stated, there are some other personal issues Dave wanted to tend to, such as his family life, and I can't hold that against him.

Q: Have you ever been directly approached with the offer of auditioning for the vacant bassist slot in METALLICA?

Dave Ellefson: No, but I would be honored if they asked me.

Q: If asked, would you consider trying out for the position?

Dave Ellefson: In the last year MEGADETH had a brand new recording contract, album and tour and I certainly felt the need to finish what I started. However, now that MEGADETH is over, and I am essentially a free agent, I'm available to check out any and all situations without anything hanging over my head and yes, I would consider it.

Q: Assuming that you don't end up pursuing the bassist position in METALLICA, what are your short-term and long-term plans with regards to your music career?

Dave Ellefson: You have to realize that this has all come very suddenly and I was preparing to go into studio/songwriting mode for MEGADETH. I'm always writing and have even done some work with a few people in the last few months as a guest performer/producer on a couple projects. However, these were done with the idea that I was in MEGADETH and would be returning back to work with the group, never as my next musical endeavors away from the band. In fact I've never really had a yearning to do a “solo” career while in MEGADETH. I knew that at some point we'd be on hiatus and that would be the time to step out and do something different. With that said, MEGADETH hasn't performed since November, when we recorded the live Rude Awakening CD/DVD. So on one level it would be fun just to get out and play music for fun with a bunch of friends. You know, something without any career agendas.

Q: Several years ago, you were quietly contemplating recording a solo record, and preliminary talks had taken place with James Murphy (TESTAMENT) and John Bush (ANTHRAX/ ARMORED SAINT) to appear on it. Would you be open to revisiting this idea now that you are free from your obligations in MEGADETH?

Dave Ellefson: In the past I would start something but I always made exceptions because MEGADETH was on schedules and I never wanted to have any solo work interfere with that, be it from me or any other band member. I always held MEGADETH in the highest priority and esteem. Again, I always felt that there would be a time and a place for other projects, just not while MEGADETH was in full force.

If you're in a band I think it's important to "be" in that band and not dilute the coolness of it with a bunch of solo projects from its members. At that point, just be solo artists!

With all the recent changes lately, I'm absolutely looking into all avenues because I have a lot of musical ideas that I think people would like to hear from me. The landscape of players and singers has changed since I originally was thinking about it back in the mid 90's so I'll be looking into who's out there and what would be cool to do.

One thing I realize is that I got to be in one of the best heavy metal bands ever. I'm certainly not on a mission to "outdo" MEGADETH, because I don't have bitter feelings about our accomplishments. I got to do more in 18+ years with that band than most people get to do in a lifetime. I really look at this as the start of the next chapter of my life wherever and with whomever that may be.

Q: Do you think there is any possiblity of MEGADETH reforming at some point in the future and picking up where you left off?

Dave Ellefson: One thing I've learned in MEGADETH is not to expect anything as I certainly didn't think we'd be having this conversation about the group's demise right now! If it's meant to be then it will be. If the time is right at some point to regroup then so be it. For now, getting some time away from it will probably be good for everyone.

Ridley Scott Also Helming Matchstick Men
    Thursday, April 18, 2002 12:57 CDT

"Gladiator," "Hannibal" and "Black Hawk Down" director Ridley Scott is adding Warner Bros.' "Matchstick Men" to his already busy schedule, says Variety. The film, expected to be his next, is being fast-tracked for a summer start.

Based on Eric Garcia's novel, which "Ocean's Eleven" scribe Ted Griffin adapted with his brother, scribe Nick Griffin, the project is described as a quirky, character-driven drama in the vein of "Paper Moon."

Ridley Scott is also set to direct the William Monahan-scripted historical drama "Tripoli" at Fox. That film also is expected to see Scott reteam with his Oscar-winning "Gladiator" star, Russell Crowe. In addition, Scott is developing an epic project on the Crusades, also penned by "Tripoli's" Monahan.
