Not sure exactly HOW I thought this one up, but here goes...

Top 10 toys of your childhood. For me, I've got some great ones.

1. My Mego super-hero action figures (ie: Spiderman, Superman, Batman, Shazam, Captain America, etc)
2. Verti Bird (the helicopter that was motorized on a circular arm, remember?)
3. Intellivision
4. Coleco hand held games
5. Tyco race tracks
6. Stretch Armstrong
7. GI Joe (remember Bulletman?)
8. Big Wheel
9. Rock 'Em Sock 'Em robots
10. SST's (the cars with the strip you'd whip out real quick and make them speed off)

Anyone else got any others? As you can tell, maybe, I grew up in the 70's and 80's. What other cool toys came from these eras?

Rubick's Cube? Simon? Merlin? Atari?

Great topic! Lemme think....

1. Hockey sticks, skates and stuff.
2. First new baseball glove
3. A slew of matchbox cars
4. Tyco race tracks (I had the night-glo one )
5. Nerf and Itsa balls
6. Intelevison
7. Home made (by Dad of course) street hockey net.
8. Mattel Electronics football, baseball and hockey (remember the little red dots??? ahh techknowledgy.)
9. Tonka Trucks
10. I forgot what they were called, but you could kick field goals with this maybe 10 inch high plastic football player by smashing his head down, I had the hockey and soccer version too.

Merlin was pretty cool, execpt you just about needed a car battery to operate the thing.

There were so many other cool toys from the 70's-80's that I can't even think of right now.

No, I remember lots of stuff - the SST cars - also had the Smash Up Derby ones. had that thing 'hawk is talking about - but I had the basketball one and I tried to paint a cooler uniform on him than the sticker one he had. Had a light brite - didn't think to use it for nocturnal messaging! Hot Wheels, one of those hockey games with the knobs you turn and the players twirl and hit the puck. Charlie Brown's All Stars dice baseball game, the Tyco slot racing with the glow in the dark, model boats, cars, planes I built. Various assorted board games. Erector set, Tinkertoys, Lincoln Logs at various times. But mainly Wiffle Ball in the summer and Nerf football in the fall/winter!

billy...thanks for making me spit my coffee! I could add a Ford Galaxie 500 trunk to that list...if I had to!

Man, I forgot to add a few...all the Star Wars toys I had. My Millenium Falcon, Death Star and X-Wing fighters RULED!!!

By the way, if anyone's interested, since we're talking about toys, my radio staff got me the 4 KISS action figures (Todd MacFarlane) a few years ago. Anyone wanna make me an offer?

Remember the TV show Space 1999? I had that big ass space ship, too! Man, being a kid was way too cool!

How could I have forgotten Legos? Man, I hope my mom wasn't stepping on mine as much as I step on my kids' Legos. Those things can cause discomfort sometimes! I also forgot I had one of those Mattel electronic games (still have it) - basketball. Amazing how much fun we could have moving little red dots and dashes around! Try getting a kid to play that today (I tell 'em it was my "gameboy"). Also had Pong! And when I was older had an Atari 5200.

Hmmm--digging back thorugh the archives......

1. GI Joe--not the wimpy little ones, but the big 12 inchers with the real hair and beard. I had the headquarters, helicopter, sea adventure, and lots more. By far my favorite.
2. Big Jim--you flexed his muscles and his biceps popped up. Had the RV too.
3. Evel Kneivel--figure with motorcycle that revved up and pulled wheelies and made jumps
4. Six Million Dollar Man--the original Steve Austin figure, complete with bionic eye and peel-back skin on the forearm, revealing computer parts.
5. Planet of the Apes Cornelius figure--basically, he just followed all the other guys around, and was usually the first killed in a war. Kinda like Ensign Smith/Jones on every Star Trek episode.
6. Stretch Armstrong--a classic. Did anybody ever cut him open to see what was inside besides me? Gooey red stuff. Also, if you left him for too long, the stuff got rock hard, making Stretch a tanned and buff cement block, perfect for inflicting bodily harm on smaller kids. Not that I ever did anything like that...
7. Yahtzee--the perennial after-the-holiday-dinner game with all the cousins.
8. Mattel Electronic Football--cutting edge for its time. You just HAD to have one.
9. Pong--the one that started it all. The paddles and ball were absolutely mesmerizing to a 10 year old.
10. Electric football: Did anybody ever get these guys to run the right way? Yeah, like those little bristles are gonna make a difference.

I had one, definitely NOT in my top ten - most frustrating toy ever invented I think! And noisy, to boot!
