Gozer the Traveller will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldronaii the Traveller came as a very large and moving Torb. Then of course in the third reconciliation of the last of the Meketrex supplicants they chose a new form for him, that of a Sloar. Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day I can tell you.

This gal tried out, but when they came to the diving-for-items portion of the test she couldn't get the buoys submerged...

As a matter of fact, yes.

Survivor was a rock outfit, formed in 1977 at the height of the frigid Chicago winter. The band originally featured Dave Bickler on lead vocals, Frankie Sullivan on lead guitar, Jim Peterik on keyboards, Dennis Johnson on bass (and shooting guard), and Gary Smith on drums.

In 1980, the band released its moderately successful debut album, titled "Survivor." After an arduous eight-month tour, Survivor returned to the recording studio, with new bassist Stephan Ellis and new drummer Marc Droubay in tow, to work on its follow-up effort, "Premonition."

Widespread success still eluded the group, until the release of its third record, "Eye of the Tiger." The title track, written and recorded specifically for inclusion on the "Rocky III" soundtrack, propelled the band to fame and fortune as it rocketed to the #1 position on the Billboard charts.

Survivor recorded one more album with Bickler on lead vocals: "Caught in the Game." The title track enjoyed mild radio airplay, but it proved to be the album's only hit. Dave Bickler decided to exit the band. He was replaced by Jimi Jamison, who later became famous for his lead vocal work on a string of successful television ads for Ambassador Pizza in Salt Lake City, Utah.

"Vital Signs," Survivor's fifth album, marked the group's return to prominence, as it featured several Top 40-charting singles. "I Can't Hold Back," "High on You," and "The Search Is Over" all achieved Billboard Top-10 status, the latter peaking at #2. "Vital Signs" reached the multi-platinum level for album sales, and the band embarked on a 10-month world tour to support the album.

Despite its hectic schedule, Survivor found time to record another theme song for a "Rocky" picture. "Rocky IV"'s "Burning Heart" vaulted into the Billboard Top Five, thus helping the "Rocky IV" soundtrack to sell several million copies.

1987's "When Seconds Count" continued the band's successful run, with the Top-10 "Is This Love."

After that, the group pretty much faded into oblivion, with no more major hits. Subsequent years featured the release of a few greatest-hits packages, plus some nondescript studio albums. Dave Bickler, the original lead vocalist, temporarily retured to the band after Jamison left to pursue a solo career. Although Survivor continues to tour and make music--with Jamison back in the band--it goes largely unnoticed by the alternative-crazed youth of the current generation.

"There goes the greatest hitter who ever lived..."
