Star Wars DVDs: TheForce.Net has bad news for fans of the original trilogy who've been desperate to see it on DVD. George Lucas was at ILM/Skywalker Sound tribute at the American Cinematheque recently and confirmed there will be "NO Special Editions for the Prequels… but he also did not count out adding in footage that existed we haven’t seen. Example: The Duel Lightsaber fight between Yoda and Dooku". The most disheartening confirmation though - "No Original Release versions (ala’ E.T DVD) on the OT DVD’s… The Special Editions are what he wanted the films to be originally, but time and money restraints way back when did not allow them to happen".

Plans are for these to be released sometime in late 2006 when our DVD players will probably be obsolete! -FH

You should be checking out my movie news thread!!!

I just updated it with that some info you seek. Ok, since you're too lazy Indy 4 starts filming this summer or fall for a July 4, 2004 release. The DVD's are heavily-rumored to be hitting shelves this Christmas so they can include some Indy 4 behind the scenes footage and/or a trailer.

I read your thread! They rock Great deal of info to digest, but I was hoping for more details on the DVD release. Thanks for the update... Damn, I feel like a kid waiting 10 months for Christmas now

Now this sucks. The special edition of Star Wars: A New Hope was one of the most ludicrous, detrimental things any director has done for one of their movies. It's completely ruined by the addition of the fake-looking Jabba in the docking bay scene and the modification of the Greedo/Han confrontation, and the scenes where improved special effects were actually needed (such as when Obi-Wan's lightsaber was "dying out") weren't even touched. Looks like bootleg DVD copies are the only ones we're going to have.

I'm not buying it. I just bought the Star Wars Trilogy a few years ago on VHS, when they came out with the special edition versions.

lucas is a major prick. i'm no big fan of speilberg, but really to have both versions of ET on the DVD is really such a cool thing to do for your fans. why lucas wouldnt take this tip from his buddy and run with it to make his fans who paid for his mansion happy is beyond me...
