PANTERA/NICKELBACK/KID ROCK Version Of ELTON JOHN Classic To Surface On 'Charlie's' Soundtrack - Jan. 24, 2003

The version of ELTON JOHN's "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)" recorded by NICKELBACK's Chad Kroeger, PANTERA's Dimebag Darrell and Kid Rock is tentatively set to surface on the "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" soundtrack.

Kroeger, who said he's been a fan of the Elton classic since he was a kid, recorded most of the track on his own. Then, one night when he was in Dallas to hang out with Dime, he brought along the demo.

"We were driving and I slipped it in [the CD player] in his vehicle, and he just flipped," Kroeger told MTV.com. "So I said, 'Dude, wanna play the guitar solo on this?' And he was like, 'Yeah, I'd love to.' "

The NICKELBACK frontman used a similar sneak attack to recruit Kid Rock. While Kroeger's bandmates were playing golf during some downtime in Detroit, Rock invited the singer to hang at his pad.

"He's got a studio right there in his house," Kroeger said. "We were listening to a bunch of stuff he was doing and I said, 'I brought a CD. Check this out?' When I put it on, he stated singing the whole thing right away. He goes, 'We used to jam this five years ago.' And he really liked the version we were doing, so I took that as an opportunity to ask him to sing the second verse."

Star Wars: Episode III Plot Summary
    Friday, January 24, 2003 4:34 CST

Ain't-It-Cool-News has up a summary of the plot for Star Wars: Episode III, which is set to start filming in late June of this year. Here's a clip of the spoiler-filled report...

The synopsis tells us that the film begins a few years after the end of ATTACK OF THE CLONES and is near the conclusion of the "Clone Wars" themselves. Hayden and Natalie are still hitched and Ewan is still at work trying to get to the bottom of who ordered the clones made and if there is a connection to the mysterious Sith. Apparently, Count Dooku (YEAH! SARUMAN IS BACK) is still fucking the galaxy up hardcore by waging his war all over the Republic, thus scaring and terrorizing the galaxy. This war between the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Republic has left a wave of destruction that is literally ripping the galaxy asunder leaving destroyed and devastated planets and lives in its wake.

Ang Lee Focusing on Houdini Next?
    Friday, January 24, 2003 9:05 CST

In an article talking about films that have been in development hell for a long time, columnists Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith report on what The Hulk director Ang Lee's next project may be.

There's Lee's Houdini, in development an amazing 30 years. The proposed film, which would focus on legendary magician Harry Houdini's debunking activities, has caught the interest of such names as Tom Cruise and directors Robert Zemeckis and Paul Verhoeven in recent years.

The word is he may focus on Houdini next after finishing "Hulk", or on a sequel to his Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Steven Spielberg on Indiana Jones 4
    Sunday, January 26, 2003 10:38 CST

TheRaider.net says that the February issue of Empire magazine features an interview with Steven Spielberg which included bits on Indiana Jones 4...

One thing that is for certain is that in 2004, Spielberg will return to the hat and bullwhip of a certain Indiana Jones. "We've finished our meetings", reveals Spielberg with a certain amount of pride about the current state of play. "It's a completely mapped-out story, as mapped-out as what George, Larry Kasdan and I first mapped out with Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Frank (Darabont the screen writer) has gone from lip service to pages. He's now doing what most writers hate to do... which is write. It's a very exciting movie."

He also mentions that the movie will be shot on film and not digitally due to the low amount of theaters that carry the new format.

Possible Britney Spears & Die Hard 4 Details
    Sunday, January 26, 2003 11:05 CST

Fansite World of Britney.com claims to have more info on the Britney Spears Die Hard 4 rumors. They appear to have heard the following from a source within Fox, only time will tell if it's accurate...

I've gotten some inside info from a contact I have at Fox, which has actually read the script to the new movie, the current working title is "Die Hard 4: Die Hardest".

Die Hard 4 will be based in the Caribbean. John McClane accidentally meets up with his daughter who's a cabaret dancer, whom he has had very little contact in the past ten years. Lucy McClane (yes, watch the past movies, his daughter's name is actually Lucy ! lol) will be played by Britney Spears.

McClane will use one gun in the movie, a German Luger which is found in a World War 2 plane wreck underwater. The script says he will only fire it twice, one of them to save his daughter from the villain in the movie. Lots and lots of fist fights will be present, including ones made by Lucy McClane.

They are in talks with Demi Moore about playing the villain, although a villain of Japanese origin has been said to be preferred. The villain is described as athletic, spiteful, unpredictable and beautiful.

The plot includes an all-action rescue of Britney who plays Willis' daughter, when she is kidnapped by a gang.

RIPPER OWENS: I Am Still The Lead Singer Of JUDAS PRIEST - Jan. 26, 2003

Despite ample evidence pointing to the fact that his days in the group are numbered, singer Tim "Ripper" Owens confirmed during a radio appearance last night (Jan. 25) that he is still a member of JUDAS PRIEST.

Owens, who replaced Rob Halford as the group's frontman in 1996, reportedly told WNEW hard rock personality Eddie Trunk during a live appearance on his "Eddie Trunk Rocks" show that JUDAS PRIEST drummer Scott Travis' quote regarding Halford's possible return to the band was probably "taken out of context" and claimed that the group have thus far been unable to locate Scott to find out exactly what he said or what he meant by his statement. He also added that he is taking a more active role in the songwriting process for the band's upcoming CD and has already penned three songs for possible inclusion on the as-yet-untitled effort, tentatively due sometime in 2004. Ripper's sole songwriting contribution to JUDAS PRIEST so far has been the track "What's My Name?" , which appeared as a bonus cut on the Japanese version of the band's last studio CD, "Demolition".

Good news about APC. Most Tool fans consider them a consilation prize but I like them just as much I like Tool if you can compare the two.

JUDAS PRIEST Representative Offers Lame Excuse For TRAVIS' Slip Of The Tongue - Jan. 27, 2003

JUDAS PRIEST Management Co-Ordinator Jayne Andrews has finally confirmed the authenticity of the widely-circulated MP3 in which PRIEST drummer Scott Travis can be heard expressing hope that former singer Rob Halford will rejoin the band in time for a summer tour. In an e-mail to a fan, Andrews writes, "I have spoken to Scott and it turns out he was at the NAMM show [in mid-January] and a guy started talking to him asking him some questions - he asked if Rob was rejoining and then he asked about RACER X and then more about PRIEST - Scott says he first of all did not know the guy had a tape recorder and secondly was only saying something that he would have liked to happen at some stage this is not anything official - if we have anything to say it will come via me! There is no truth in this."
