I like Sammy too and I'm also glad he wants it to be a competition. That will bring out the best of both of them.

I don't think this tour is going to last if one of them upstages the other on a regular basis though.

One final note regarding Dave. I just can't believe the balls on this man. To try and dictate to Sam how he runs is show is ludicrous. I read a quote from Sam on CNN.com that pretty much sums Dave up: "He's like an egomaniac -- in a positive sense, that he really, really thinks he's the greatest thing that ever walked on this planet." You would think that the direction his career has taken him would have humbled him by now, but that's obviously not the case. His head is bigger than ever.

I don't mean this in a bad way, dj88. But what did you expect from Dave. He's just being the way DLR fans expect him to be, brash and proud. Do you really think either of them are going to upstage each other? Yes, Sammy fans are going to think that he did better and so are the DLR fans. There will be plenty of topics here at the forums on who did better, bet on it. But lets look at the big picture... in no way are either of them going into this with mediocre bands. You can expect at each show that both of these guys will be on top of their game in a way like none of us have seen before. It's a "friendly" competition and that's great for the concert goers because we will finally get what we've been lacking for so long now (aside from Van Halen) real rock and roll. Another Sam vs Dave thread???? oh gee...

I think Dave and Sam are getting along fine, and have an understanding of each other....

I still hope they jam together at the end of the show...

I'm not sure if Dave even realizes that is a stupid thing to do. I think Dave and the VH brothers have there own "reality" where things just work in a different way. He was very complimentary about Sammy yesterday (much more so than Sammy was about him) and playing up the whole tour as a package rather than DLR and support.

That kind of legal bullshit is just "par for the course" (excuse the pun) in Classic VH land, he probably didn't even know it might cause tension.

I only hope Dave brings his voice with him to the show for a change. I'd feel really sorry for him to go out there sounding like a cat on the starter motor of an automobile being compared to Sammy.

Please, Dave, adjust to your lower register!

Maybe you're right Jonathan. I hope that's the case anyway. It doesn't seem to have affected anything anyway.

Quotes from T RYAN from the Press Conference thread.

Both singers said they plan to include a heavy dose of Van Halen in their sets.

I expected this, we know Dave is already doing this, and should be very interesting, and may be the closest thing anyone will get to a VH reunion. Especially if Mike shows up.

"I'm going to do almost exclusively the Van Halen catalog," Roth said. "It's about time that we show up and not just do renditions. I have a hot band that will serve it large."

Dave does have a hot band, and he will be great.

"He's going to do some of the Van Halen songs I did," Hagar joked.

I am assuming he means Jump, Panama, etc....would be interesting to see Dave do a Sam tune...

"Since Dave actually wrote those songs," Roth shot back.

Again this most assuredly means songs like Jump, Panama, Ain't tlkaing bout Love, etc

"What you have is quintessential Americana, and you couldn't pick a more appropriate time for that," explained Roth, who described the vibe of the tour as a cross between Jimmy Buffett and Limp Bizkit. "Between the two of us there is probably something between 80 to 100 million albums sold. And whether you've owned it or not, you've heard Sammy or my voice blaring out of a pickup truck in front of you at the drive-thru at the local Burger King for how many summers?"

Interesting quote, and Dave is definately giving props to Sam here.

As for the chances of Eddie and Alex Van Halen joining either singer for a reunion, it doesn't appear likely. Although Hagar and Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony are working together on a side project and both Hagar and Roth said Anthony is welcome to perform with them, they did not sound interested in the Van Halen brothers.

Very kool that both Dave and Sam have extended an invitation to Mike to perform with them, I hope he does.

Ed and Al not joining is not surprising in the least.

"I'm not sure what the brothers think and I'm not sure I really care," Roth said.

Well Dave is "not sure" he cares, but it seems that something went down seriously with the reunion falling through to say this, but we have been waiting long enough. I don't think the VH borthers should care either, if they do "care" they should join Dave and Sam. The fans win with this tour.

When asked why Gary Cherone, the other former Van Halen singer, is not on the bill, Roth joked that the former Extreme frontman was busy doing "The Vagina Monologues."

    Pretty funny....

Can't wait especially if Mike does come aboard.

    Me too!!!

I give this three 6's, Hell has frozen over!!!
